Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
They're wheels, and a type that are available to all if they want them...if you're that concerned about people duplicating or copying what you have, don't post pics or have custom wheels made that no one else can get. If you post pics on the internet, they're fair game whether you like it or not.
I also agree that the number of posts shouldn't be used to judge someone’s credibility...very few people with high post counts actually post anything worthwhile. This isn't aimed at you necessarily (this thread excluded of course). There's a lot of contradiction on this site though about noobs and trolls yet a high emphasis on searching as well. If people search and find their answer, they don't need to post and therefore may not have a reason for a high post count.
Regardless, this thread has completely derailed and become completely ridiculous and childish. I'm unsubscribing from it b/c it's become a waste of time and cluttering my inbox with nonsense...

Not exactly an "on the computer all the time type of guy"... I'm here when I need to be, otherwise outside - with a life. I don't see how post count matters since i've built my car from the ground up myself and with the help of fellow TGO Members... If I put in my tagline my other cars too, like my s2000, S5, or the S420 - would that give me more seniority?? No... Neither does a bunch of post counts that are mostly pompous responses... Ignorance and just being pure Rude towards a fellow member over curiosity is totally uncalled for. I just don't appreciate when someone (twin turbo) acts like a complete selfish pig to someone else just because they popped an un-existant cherry over the exclusiveness they think they should have on their wheels... I found it purely ridiculous, hence the seemingly childish comebacks because they just seemed fitting to the elementary freak out from him... Simple as that... My apologies to everyone else thou, I should of just let him know he was being a big D in a PM...
I was going to add my 2 cents but just nevermind. I can understand your frustration but I would have expected a more controlled response from a senior member. And yes there was a need to speak in general because we went from people sharing their wheels to two people fighting about their wheels to a bunch of people fighting about superior post counts.

ok guys, let's please not get this thread locked as to the fact that it in itself has been a big help to people looking for a sick set of wheels. I understand sometimes we get our britches up in a bunch from time to time but for now let's just let it go and enjoy what this thread is. A collection of awesomeness, lol.

"For many people, the extent of their automobile enthusiast life is lived out in the forums and the blogs. One can spend hours hopping from site to site, post to post, in search of something to awe, shock, or bewilder; and that niche will always be filled. Soon enough, however, one becomes jaded to the big, expensive wheels, enormous turbos, and seemingly impossible suspension set-ups. Rather than appreciating the cars as personal projects with their own investments of time, money, and effort, the cars simply become objects to judge and rank in a personal hierarchy of acceptable norms. This corruption is where statements like, “V8 drift cars are played out!” come from. Just because the internet has introduced a handful of fully swapped, functional engine-swapped cars in a period of several months, the forum junkie’s brain pushes this “trend” into the “been there, done that” folder; not even considering that there’s maybe been one within his own arm’s reach before, and the chances of him actually shaking the hand of a builder is slim to none.
And there’s those of us that actually get out there and shake some hands, break bread with fellow enthusiasts, and let our other four senses in on the fun. There is, maybe weekly, maybe monthly, a group of car guys meeting in a moonlit parking lot near you. They may be muscleheads, ricers, or truckers; or perhaps they are hardparkers or street racers. Regardless of their clique, they are leaving their computers behind, and discovering the true fuel of this movement; the people and their cars. The forum and the blogs, as crucial as they are, have created a scene of anonymous automobile statues. As much as we may push personal stories in our features, many people will still walk away claiming that last week’s 240sx was better because the wheels were wider, the stance was lower, or the aero was rarer – regardless of the fact that this week’s owner spent ten years saving every extra penny while working two jobs and providing for a family.
AJ Gillett is a true car enthusiast. He’s the guy out there snapping shots of his scene (Chicago), whether it’s a nationally attended event or a group of friends killing a night doing what they love the most. He writes:
That night was just a typical night out causing a ruckus. People I know living in other parts of the country tell me this is not a common occurrence, but in Chicago we do our best to have our cars be a sort of “jack of all trades”, and this car is no different. This car is not just some flawless show car, it also sees very regular street driving, and plenty of track time. The LS1 power plant and plethora of suspension modifications are just an added bonus with the car’s good looks and selection of hard to come by parts.
He continues:
Not unlike the majority of nights out, this night included everything from bullshitting at random spots in the city, to highway cruising, grabbing a bite to eat, and maybe even a little sideways tomfoolery. As the night came to a close everyone made a pitstop at the gas station before heading home. In my eyes it is nights like these are what makes Chicago the great place to live that it is. Good conversation, good food, cool cars, cool people, and fun driving… Who could ask for anything more?
This is where the heartbeat of the scene is, readers. Let go of the mouse and walk away. Go outside with your car buddies and talk shop, burn rubber, and smell some exhaust. This movement isn’t built on the constant one-upmanship that the forums have seemingly made it out the be. It is about community. This is getting with the people that think like you and creating your own big nights in the Windy City."
----------------------------------
Imitation is the highest form of flattery. It also isn't that hard to order a set of wheels. If you want to be unique you just have to set your car up exactly how you like it and be happy with it. Others might copy things, sure, but if your whole car is made of rare parts and put together very meticulously it'll be hard to make a carbon copy. It's not the end of the world. That said, the guys mocking Twin Turbo were being stupid and immature.
As useful as this forum is, at the end of the day it doesn't matter what your post count is or how many other members there are in the world with similar cars, it just matters that yours makes you happy. I see 3-4 third gens on a good week around here, being copied IRL isn't a huge concern for us third genners like it is Honda and Nissan guys.

I think the CTW 17 * 9 wheels look the best.
They are light weight and don't need spacers.

Those wheels are great but get ready to polish, polish, polish. I had them on my vette and they completely make the car. Oh yeah, they are really soft so be careful of potholes.

its got to be the offset, your drop center is farther toward the outside of the rim, where mine is hidden farther back.

17x8 SLP ZR1 replicas made for 3rd gens. I think they fit the body lines well if your not looking for a big wheel.

Here are my wheels. They are American Racing AR-23 with a little custom touch from some black wheelpaint and some black lugnuts. I plan on getting black centercaps for them also. I went with these wheels because I really like the style and you don't see hardly any thirdgens running them. Only one other member on this forum has them to my knowledge.

No spacers needed, I think they were 4.5 back spacing front & 5.5 back spacing in the rear. 17x8 frt 17x10 rr.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
These are my 18 x 9 inch tsw wheels. I had them custom painted to go with the car, and hydro-dipped in carbon fiber. What u guys think?

Well, I've been going back and forth on it. I believe thirdgens are going to come arround some possibly. & It took quite a bit of work to get the car where it is. Not sure if it's worth it to let it go for soo much less than it took to get it that way. All the right things were done at the time to do it right..
Love the Brembos on your car..BTW How's the braking with them??

They also make these wheels in 16s which I WOULD have gotten if there was a better tire selection for 16s.

Wow... I cannot believe the bickering in here about wheels - in this day and age, no information is safe. So those wanting to be in "the only" catagory need to seriously consider custom 1 off wheels. And especially do not post pics of the logo's displayed on the center caps.
To the post count BS and time spent being a member... I've been here since 1995, changed screen names with every third gen I got (Im overdue now as a matter of fact) So...the only thing that really matters is factual data that can be widely used to improve the cars we love... making them better etc also helps out all aspects of the hobby.
Last, wheels are HARD to pick for these cars. The body lines are edgy but curved so a perfect balance that compliments it is hard to get from any wheel company. Frankly.. I'd be honored to find and bring a nice wheel (like the Rowhe's) to the table. Some nice builds are to come with those...
