Will 17 inch wheels work on a 3rd gen?

I want to know if anybody has used 17 inch wheels on a 3rd gen. I know that they are supposed to work with a spacer or something! I just wanna hear if anyone has used em, and did they work well or not. I know I'll get an ear full from the old school guys but, damn it I dont care I want to put some vette wheels on my T/A. Thanks in advance, I know Ill get some good info from you guys.

size has nothing to do with it, you could put 20's on a camaro... it's all about offset.

People have put from 15 to 20 inche wheels on third gens.

Check the offset, backspacing.

Vette wheels need adapters... or spacers im im not mistaken.

Good luck

I didnt need spacers... All of my wheels are zero offset, which on a 9 inch wheel is a 4.5 inch backspacing. If you use a corvette or 4th gen F-body wheel, you will need adapters

Running 17"x8" ROH wheels, no spacers required, dropped car down 1 1/2" all around, no problems, rubs just a little at full right turn. Can send pics if you want to see how they look.

Do they rub because you dropped it down? Id love to see pictures. What are the best aftermarket wheels to go with, brand wise? Im skeptical of buying any of the corvette reproductions off ebay or other places.

17 what? 17x8 or 17x9 with what offset?
From the tire size you are running... I'd have to say 17x8.
But did you get the 4.75 offset?

I'm in the market for buying the same rims, but I'd like to buy rims and not paper weights.

Check into SLP, I believe that they have 4th gen looking wheels but fit 3rd gens without spacers.

A 275/40R17 and 245/50R16 are the same diameter. Both tire sizes will work on either generation camaro given the correct wheel.

As I said above, SLP has great looking 17"x8" wheels which fit '82 thru '92 Camaros & Firebirds without spacers,,, they are designed for our cars,,, And now they are on special, $599 for a set of 4 ZR-1 style wheels.

So what offset would you look for in 17's?

I'm looking for 8" wide in front and 9" in back... Could I go 10" out back without modifying anything?

6 inches of back spacing in the back and 4 1/2 in the front.

Will -5 offset in the back work ?

This thread is 14 years old.
-5 offset is meaningless without a width to work from.
