IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing
Hey everyone, I tried a searching for some answers, but was getting different answers to these questions. Can someone please set the record straight?
Front iroc rims: Offset and backspacing
Rear iroc rims: Offset and backspacing. And if the offset is indeed 16mm, is that positive or negative?
If I put Front irocs in the rear, does it stick out more, or get recessed deeper?
Thanks!

You can put the fronts on the rear, but you can't put the rears on the front.

Front is 0 offset
Rear is positive 16mm or approx 5" bs.
If you put the rears on the front they will stick IN more.
The rims are marked "Front", "Rear" in the middle of one of the spokes so you can tell.

Ahh OK. The main reason I'm asking is because i have two sets of iroc rims. I was thinking to put my spare set of 'fronts' in the rear because I am under the assumption that they'll stick out a little further. To me, it would give it a little more of an aggressive stance.

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing
Personally I wouldn't bother.
If you want bigger wheels buy them. The idea is to have the front and rear wheels align together. Not have the back set stick out and affect the handling of the car (not in a good way).

These all have 0 offset.
Would they fit fine? 0 offset means they stick out more in the rear?

Yes, they will work. Making all 4 wheels the same is cheaper, and allows for a greater range of fitment for different applications. Lotta guys will actually find an extra set of stock "0" offset fronts and run 'em on the back because it pushes 'em out, as you mentioned, just a little bit.

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing
According to OER the front had a 4-14" Backspacing: https://www.oerparts.com/product/14089081.html
While the Rear had 5-1/8" Backspacing: https://www.oerparts.com/product/14089082.html
Where is this Rear Positive 16mm that @The Project mentioned coming from?

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing
The dirty little secret about wheels is that outside width is actually +1 inch wider than advertised width. That 8 inch wide wheel is actually 9 inch outside width. This is why doing the math with advertised width never seems to add up.
Do the math using outside width and you'll successfully be able to convert between backspacing and offset.
0 mm offset is 4-1/2 inch backspace.
16 mm offset is 5-1/8 inch backspace

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing
I just purchased a set of aftermarket 18x8 IROC wheels for my 86 IROC. I know the stock wheels were marked fronts and rears. These are not. Does it matter how I mount them? Also do I use the factory rear spacers that are on the rears? Thank you.

The factory 16" wheels were marked front and rear because the wheels will hit the tie rod on the front and needed a different offset. The 18" wheels will clear so it doesnt matter

......but most thirdgens, along with S10's and G bodies, and many of the cars of that era all run 0mm offset wheels. It's the 16mm offset REAR IROC wheels that are different, not the fronts. Had they kept all four wheels the standard 0mm offset, they wouldn't have hit the tie rod anyway. The TA and Z28 15" wheels don't hit. So for reasons we can discuss later, the REAR wheels had the different offset from ALL the other wheels. -and if you put the rears on the front, I've never tested, but I can certainly see how they'd hit the tie rod, -but that's not "why" the fronts are "0". The fronts have always been "0".
