A friend of mine has a set of 15x10 prostars with a 5.5 backspace. Should I bother buying them? I don't mind cutting bumpstops or removing extra metal inside the fenders. It'll probably be a 275 drag radial on them. Thanks!

try harder, this is a very common fitment.

they will bolt on with little modification, provided they have the right bolt pattern.

they will, however, stick out of the wheels wells a little. this is a very common size for the drag race guys. 6.5" of bs looks a million times better, but require more work, cutting, hammering.

You will need to cut out the bumpstops and I had to grind the **** out of my pbr calipers to make them fit, yet the '87 iroc I took them off of had pbr calipers and didn't need any grinding or cutting of bumpstops just unbolting, apparently there are two different kind of fins on the calipers and mine had to get grinded.

 

with 5.5 of bs, the only work to the bump stop would be very minor at best, no need to completely remove it.

wheels design has a lot to do with the fin issue as well

 

Looks like they fit with no modifications. Minor if any.

 

I took my draglites off of an '87 iroc with pbr calipers and they fit fine on that car with just the bumpstops unbolted and calipers intact. I put them on my '89 iroc and I had to cutoff the bumpstops and grind the snot out of the calipers.

 

87's didnt have pbr calipers, they are the iron ones

regardless, every car is a little different, so some may need a little more work than others. the rideheight can change this since the axle will move side to side at different heights because of the panhard bar.

 

Dont forget, brake pad thickness in the rear will affect where the caliper sits in relation to the back of the wheel.

Old pads will give lots of clearance, new pads will make the caliper require the most grinding.
