racestar wheels

i have decided i need some drag wheels soon. i have ls1 brakes so im told i will have to grind a ton off my caliper to make most all wheels fit. not a big fan of doing that the same as i dont really like the idea of spacers.

i found a set from racestar wheels that the guys on ls1 tech say clear with very minimal if any grinding. i had decided on a set of jegs wheels and almost bought them when i found out that i would have to grind like crazy to get them to fit. will these fit the same as a jegs or weld wheel in the way of backspacing.

i decided on 15x8 wheel with 4.5 backspacing for the rear. i did so to avoid bfh a hole ton to get them to fit. tires are going to be 275/50/15 mt et street radials.

the front is a 15x3.75 with a 1.5 backspace. im told these fit with no grinding no spacers or anything.

http://www.racestarindustries.com/index.html link to their site. i really like the way the wheels look.

any advice guys.

Re: racestar wheels

well i just decided to bite the bullet and buy the wheels. 709.00 shiped with lugnuts steel valves and all the jaz.

i ordered mickey thompson et street radials in 275/60/15 for the rear and mt sportsman radial fronts 26 inches tall and 8 ply for the heavy cars.

this was all spured by a somewhat scary ride last night at the strip. 420 hp threw 18 inch wheels with bf goodwrench 245/55/18 street tires resulted in a very scary 14.6 at 5300 feet with a 2.65 60 foot time. im sure with practice i could shave it way down but i figure for saftey sake i would bite the bullet and buy a real set up. plus soon i will be setting up the 175 shot and that was not going to work with street tires.

ill get pictures when they are all mounted for anyone that is interested. i found one third gen with them on it and it looked real mean.

Re: racestar wheels

Front skinnies will shave a tenth or two, but no way do they add safety. You lose steering power and braking power. I only had to try it one Saturday, ever since I've kept my street radials on the front during dragstrip runs.

Mike.... How come I have never seen your car before man!? You gotta meet up with the local group sometime. I wanna see your car. The powerplant sounds like what I'm wanting to do.

badnblack

i just bought it a few weeks back. trying to get it sorted out. i ran it on wed up at bandimere and it was less than impressive. 14.6 best with a 2.65 60ft time. spun scary hard and i never really could get all the way on it. hense the new drag set up.

im looking to race it a bunch at bandimere and show it whenever i can. its a good 10 footer but not perfect by any means. feel free to pm me if there is something going on and ill try to make it. by the way your car looks real nice man. i love that rear spoiler.

atilla thanks for the input i was worried about that. especially since my cam is outragous and i have to run a vacuum canister for power brakes as it is. ill give it a go if its as bad as you say ill buy some 15x5 fronts to run on the street.

Nice man! Be really interested to see your car! That 14.6 is pretty lame for your power plant man. My little 305 is running 15.0's up there, so be interesting to see how much you shave when you can launch it and hook!

I will def PM you if something fun is going on, you just missed a good one at my shop in Fort Collins last month. I think if your on Facebook (who isn't LOL), you should join our CO club... MHTG Mile High Third Gens.

I just requested to join the group. It will pick up a ton with traction. Its also looking like my fuel pump is on its way out. That can't do anything but hurt the times as well. Looking forward to some Summer fun and racing.

I'm surprised you haven't blown yours up yet behind a 408.

Re: racestar wheels

Based on Mike's 60', he doesn't have the traction to hurt that rear. That'll change with his new setup.

Re: racestar wheels

That is the case Jim 85 its kind of fun till it spins in third then the fun factor goes away. The wheels came in today mounting the tires on the wheels in the morning. So ill have some pictures then. Not sure when I'll have time to put them on the car. Hopefully this week. I need to put a driveshaft loop in before I can run the car on these so hoping to get it all done at once and do the shocks struts and front coil springs then to.

Hopefully I can keep the rear under it for q bit till I get the s60 here.

Re: racestar wheels

Didn't get time to get the loop and tires done before the races today. I lowered the air pressure to 29 psi and ran a new best of 13.83 at 104 with a 2.3 60 foot on the street tires. I can't wait to get these on.

Re: racestar wheels

heres a picture of the rears installed. they still need to come off and get 3.25 arp studs installed. i had 2.5 in there and they stuck threw a bit on the old wheels these are about a half inch from the end of the lug nuts. im sure they are fine but the track wont like it.

they stick out more than i would like. i went with 4.5 b/s they arent completely ******* sticking out but way more than i care for. i believe the strange s60 is a bit more narrow than the third gen rear. im thinking that should bring these right flush. i have a bit or room to the inside of the tire to compensate for that.

the wheels mounted with no issues and cleared my ls1 rear brakes as advertised. these are the unilug ones that have washers and all that so a bit more tricky but no big deal.

Re: racestar wheels

so i did a search on here and i think i have figured out why my wheels and tires stick out. they should have fit up flush but stick out about and inch on each side.

i think i have a 4th gen rear in the car. is there something on the rear end that would tell me for sure if this is the case.

i kind of find it funny since i have to order the s60 soon anyway so i can narrow it back to third gen size if thats what i need to get this to fit right. just dont want to make a real costly mistake and order the wrong size on the rear end.

Re: racestar wheels

any side pictures of the car with the fronts on too? im looking to get a set of these wheels. im trying to figure out if a wider front tire will fit on the front so its safer for the street. i also have ls1 brakes, and putting skinny fronts defeats the purpose of doing a brake upgrade. how did your front wheels fit?
