Picked up some vette wheels
Hey Guys,
So a buddy of mine sold me the rims off of his vette for super cheap and i am deciding what tires to get as well as any fitment issues i will run into on m 86 base camaro.
The picture i have attached is another thirdgen i found that has the same rims only mine are powdercoated black.
The Front rims are 18"X 9" i believe and the rears are 19" X 11".
I want to put a set of tires that look good and some rear tires that are really wide but front tires that hopefully will not rub. Has anyone got these rims on their thirdgen? If so What setup are you running?
Also do i need any wheel spacers or anything and if so where do i buy the spacers as well as possibly some black lug nuts?
Thanks Guys

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
On the front, I have 255-40/18 and the rear 275-35/19. All four are Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 and got them from Discount Tire Direct. Great prices and free shipping. I had to hammer inside the rear wheel wells a little, but no major mods needed. I have 2" adapters in the front and did have 2" adapters in the rear, but have since added a 4th Gen rear and no adapters needed. I bought the adapters on eBay and the lug nuts from Advance Auto.

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
Thanks! I want to run at least 295s on the rears. When ou swapped to the 4th gen rear end did you get a positrac? I really want to get rear discs, positrac, and fit me some wide tires so i can actually hook up.
For the front i will most likely get some 2" spacers and then see if i can get ahold of a 4th gen rear end.
You don't rub at all on the front?

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
That's a lot of tire in the rear and the stock backspacing on the wheels will not allow that. Yes, the 4th Gen rear is a 3.42 limited slip with disc brakes. Just so you understand, there is a difference between spacers and adapters. I would make sure, for saftey's sake, that you get adapters instead of spacers. I do have a slight rubbing issue on the front if I turn the wheels to the full lock position. Easy fix though, don't go that far.

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
Yeah i figure i will need like 2.5" worth of spacer in the rear so needless to say a spacer is not even feasible lol.
I will most likely order a set of hubcentric adapters that are 2" up front and 2.5" out back and then do 245/45/18s on the front and 285/35/19s on the rear and i will roll my fendors and go from there.
I'm going to order the adapters from ebay today i think then i just gota come up with 1000 dollars for tires lol.
Thanks for your help!!

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
Glad to be able to help someone. I was lucky enough to get my wheels for $400. The rubber was a different story though. After all is said and done, glad I did it, especailly the rear end swap.

Yeah i bought mine for 600 and they are freshly powdercoated black. Di you buy spacers that had the little lip front and back? Hubcentric spacers i think?
I found all kinds of spacers and some have the lip and others do not.

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
Just did that exact set on my 82. Used 2" spacers in the front and 2 1/2 in the rear. I also lowered the car and don't have any issues rubbing unless the back of the car is completely raised off the ground. Then the left wheel touches the bumpstop mount just barely. I think 2 3/4 spacers might be better, but then it gets a little close to the fenders. Used spacers without the outer lip. The tapered lug nuts center the wheel correctly.

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
So i did 2.5" hubcenteric spacers on the rear and i hammered in the fendor well a little. Then i did a 2" lug centric spacer on the front.
The tires i did hankook vensus 285/45/19s on the reas and 245/30/18s on the front. No rubbing and the tires look sick.
I plan do do a 1" drop most likely but will be rolling the fendors soon just to be safe.
I love the new look

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
I have heard alot of people say the bought lowering springs that actually raised their car and did not really stiffen their suspension any. Does anyone have any recommendations on springs/ Full suspension kits to use that will give me a lowered look and be even front and rear while enhancing my stability?.

I haven't heard lowering springs raising the car, it just doesn't make sense. I put eibach sportlines on and I can assure you my car was lowered, ride was stiffened and stability improved

Wheels look good llcamaroguy...! Welcome to the club.
Re: Picked up some vette wheels
If you don't index them properly it will raise the car, I know cause that's what I did accidentally. Be sure to put the open coil between the two little holes on the lower control arm(on the inside).

Re: Picked up some vette wheels
So i haven't done any lowering yet but i have noticed that i am rubbing somewhere in the rear whenever i turn or hit a dip in the road.
I do not know where i am rubbing but need to find it and stop it.
Any ideas?
I thought about replacing the shocks to raise the rear and stiffen the suspension but i don't know if that will help me not rub.
I don't want to harm my new tires or rims so i am being very cautious
