Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
You don't want a 28" tire in the front, IT WILL rub like crazy. a 225/65/R15 on the front is plenty, and you could run 245's if you went up to a 16" rim.
On the back I am currently running a 275/60/R15 on a 15x8 rim. It is a 28" tire and does not rub, although that is about as big as I would be comfortable having back there. a 29.1" tire would definitely rub.
If you go with the sizes you have listed then you will have tires that rub and they will look like truck tires.
26" up front and 28" in the back is as big as you can go before you start having to roll the fenders, etc.

Oh okay. Well thanks for letting me know that. And they are 15x7 for me. Its the factory wheels. So what size would be the max for front and back for a 15x7 wheel. Its got drum brakes on the back in case that comes into play. Just let me know when you can.
Thank you and Peace.

Mmk, those would be a good size too. Might throw your speedometer off just a little bit but it'll still give you good grip.

235/60R15s on 7in. wide wheels front.
255/60r15s on 8in. wide wheels rear.
255s on the 7in wheel will balloon more as mentioned.
By the way Mickey Thompson has a All Season Street Radial called the Sportsman S/T that I'm switching over to. Might want to check it out. They might have the best grip of the 15in. All Seasons. We will see.

Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
Under my Avatar it says 3.42s with Eaton Posi. and L.P.W. Support Cover.
You should fill yours in. "Please"
I should have the Thompson Sportsman S/Ts next month.
$134.88 ea. for rear 255/60r15 at Summit Racing
No tax and free shipping = $269.76 to the door.
$12.00 ea to mount and balance so = $293.76 total
I think I can swing it ????
I will be running the black wall out. White letters in.
I don't need the fronts yet.
Link = http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mtt-6028
This is what they are going to look like but black letters out and with a nice shine =

Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
It says minimum wheel width for 255 is 7in but that's pushing it.
The 235/60r15 is 26.10 diameter with a tread width of 7.60in.
The 245/60r15 is 26.60 diameter with a tread width of 8in.
The 255/60r15 is 27.00 diameter with a tread width of 8.20in.
Really not much difference between the 245 and the 255. I think a 245 might be the best pick for a 7in. wide wheel. But that has to be your call.

Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
The staggered look that I have is not the most popular and there are many other options out there when you get away from the 15in wheel.
I like my build and would not have it any other way but must say that the tires on there now are not exactly a high performance package. I have fun with it anyway.
Putting Mickey Thompsons on it should at least be a step up if not in name only.

Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
What's the rest of your suspension? What kinda power do you have?
Real street tires on the rear just aint gonna hook, no matter what.
I had yoko avid 255/60-15 rears and 235/60-15 on mine and I could spin both rear tires for over 300 feet. I think my best 60' time at drag strip on them was like 2.2X
That was with 3.42 gears, 2800 stall, locker in rear end, jegster torque arm, spohn LCAs and relocation brackets, AGX shocks, air lift drag bags, etc
I moved up to Nitto 555R 275/60-15 drag radials and traction improved A LOT. 60' time at the track was 1.6X
Now with more engine power, 3500 stall and 3.89 gear, back to no traction even with the Nittos.. So looking at the Mickey Thompsons ET street radial drag radials in a 295/55-15 size. I know these MT's will not have the tread life that the Nittos did (I got 10K miles out of them)
I run a 15x8" wheel
With your 15x7's, the biggest you can go is a 255/60

Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
Even my little 5.0 has trouble hooking with the All Seasons on there now.
The modifications I've done to the car, like changing the rear gear ratio to 3.42 ,28 spline Eaton Posi., and a few others are all geared towards building a fun street car that looks good and can be driven everyday. So far it has worked out well.
Other than getting the M/T Sportsman S/Ts, I'm focusing on re upholstering the 4th gen seats in there now. That's going to take some saving but that's how I've done the rest.
Night rider327,
I can see you have put a lot into your car. Top of the line. Very, very nice indeed.

Yeah it has been a many years, many changes type project. One of these days she will look as nice as she performs. I sort of got tunnel vision set on performance and figured looks could wait. 10 years later she is still wearing primer.
Once I do get to the paint, I'm planning on black starburst pearl, with something like GM code 94 red pearl bladwin/motion performance style stripes

Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
Sounds nice...
Things change with nice paint.
Best to get that other work done so there's no worries about scratches.
When I work on mine its covered "well" with the softest cotton towels I can find.
Honestly the only place the human hand has touched paint is the hatch lip to open/close it, the door handles and the front of the hood. The paint is 6 years old.
Absolutely no wax of any kind. True Synthetics only. Not the deep look you can get with some waxes but looks like glass.
Side note = The front valance has been removed and the street valance is in its place. Front scratches/etc. are unavoidable so the paint is not the same.

Re: Biggest Tires Without Modifications Or Rubbing
I can say my car "basically" started out as you described.
You could sell the parts on EBay to help with the cost of ......
Well what ever is next.
