235/70 is 2" taller than the factory size. It'll fit the wheel, but it's likely to scrape inside the wheel wells, at least, according to a recent post by someone who has 28" tires and said they scrape, and he was looking for something else. The optional 15" size from the factory was 235/60. It's the most appropriate 15" upgrade.

I put 215/70R15 97S M&S, BF Goodrich, Radial T/A tires on my 1986 Firebird and had to pull back the inner fenders on the front as the tires rubbed when cranked full left and right. I pulled the inner fenders back with a piece of threaded rod and it solved the rubbing issue. Your 235 tires will be wider and I think they might be too large to fit. The taller profile tires raise the car a little and make it a bit easier to get in and out for my old knees.
To me the car looks better with the taller tires as it fills up the wheel wells better.
Keep in mind that with the taller tire you will be travelling faster than with stock tires at the same speedometer reading, because the circumference of the tire is longer per revolution.

I ran 245/60/15s on my '92 for awhile, until I switched over to 16s so I could fit LS1 brakes. The rears fit without issue, but the fronts rubbed a fair bit at full lock. I ended up putting spacers (1" I believe) on the front wheels, and that pretty much fixed it... slight rub at full lock to the left, but no issues in normal driving outside of parking lots. Check your rear bump stops while you got the wheels off btw, you'll be scrubbing the top of your wheel well every time you drive through a dip if yours are rotted off like mine were!
I have some pictures of my car with the 245s installed, you can see them if you go to my profile and check the "post-accident pics" album. The white letter tires were the 245s, good ol' Cooper Cobras
