ok....i went to the dyno today. the numbers weren't quite as high as i hoped for but now i know what i'm putting to the ground. remember this is RWHP not at the crank. 134.4 hp @4800 and 155.0 torque @ 3900. again not quite what i expected but almost as much at the wheels as a stock 3.1 has. i have an auto tranny too which helps you lose about 30% of the power from the crank to the rear wheels. also, the was a real dyno that puts a load on the tires to measure, not just give a calculated number.

well if ur losing 30% of hp from the crank to the wheels, then that should put you at 190 hp or so, which is eh, damn good. Especially considering that a 3.1L is actually only a 140hp engine, so i'd have to say that'd be impressive enough.
i thought auto trannies give a 25% loss and stick is 20%... thats still just a general estimate tho, since alot of it depends on the gearing. (and 700r4's are good in that department)
anyways, i would really like to see the graph, or at least post the HP/TQ at every 500rpm, i have never seen a dyno graph of a 3.1 and i am very interested.

I'd like to see a 2.8/3.1 dyno at some point too.
Also JMHO, but I think you're giving yourself a bit too much parasitic loss. Modern auto's are around 20% (and GM is well known for making excellent autos that are very efficient and don't sap much vs. manuals), manual's are closer to 15%. Someone a while back found the T56 6 speed in 4th gen cars to sap 12% after going from an engine to a chasis dyno (obviously the 12% includes the differential).

the guy at the dyno told me around 30% on autos and 20% on sticks....just depends on who you ask. that was running a full exhaust system and still the stock chip on my highly modded motor. i want another chip and i need to put a torque convertor lock-up switch on it to help get all the power that i can to the rear end. i'll try to get the graphs scanned and posted as soon as i can.
edit: oh yea, its still got the stock speed limiter too (110 but really about 87 with my 4.10 gears). and, apparently my tach shows about 600 rpms more than the motor is turning. their computer only showed up to about 5400 when my tach was showing about 6000.

If anyone is interested (or wants a good laugh
) heres my dyno before I pulled my 2.8 (turned out to be a 3.1L heh not a 2.8L... said 3.1L on the crank... odd).... needless to say it was running **** poor. I looked at the timing a few days after and it was at like 2* at idle. No idea... but the car could not pull out 4th gear on the dyno.... 77rwhp was in 3rd
after the pull in 3rd, the guy just told me to take the car off.. too much strain on it (dyno?
).

here's a picture of my dyno sheet.
edit: ignore the spike at the end, it read somethin funny when the speed limiter shut the motor off.

Not a bad curve. Surprising to me that these motors don't make much power over 5000...they fall off very quick!

I want to try and get my car dyno'd around here too to see what I've got, I just haven't had the time lately.
What mods do you have done to the engine? Looks like a great run by the way!

mods: 3.1 bored +.030", custom domed pistons, about 10.75:1 compression, biggest factory produced valves, 3-angle valve job, fully ported and polished heads, ported intake, 1.6:1 roller tip rockers, crane cam - .484 INT lift and .512 EX lift, hooker super comp LT headers, custom y-pipe, 3" "catback". just got back from the track and i ran a NEW RECORD time! 9.67 @73.16mph running open headers. the car sounds sweet like this. oh yea, 2.13 60' old best was 2.14.

Wow dude...you'd rip my V8 out of the hole badly!! Not to mention you're running some seriously fast times...I'm shocked.
By the way...your cam is freaking huge!!!

I have:
2.5" cat-back exhaust, SLP cold air intake, Hypertech Computer chip, 8.5mm spark plug wires. That's basically it for performance modifications, nothing heavy at all.

Damn... now I HAVE to land in the 14s to get ahead of you!
Ok.. 10psi. :P I can't wait to see what the turbo does... I know the exhaust is still kinked up, off the stock DSM O2 housing. I've got to build a custom stainless steel mandrel downpipe still...

side note: the energy suspension transmission mount looks much better than the factory replacement. i just installed one yesterday after ripping mine out thursday night at the track. they say it requires modification for it to fit...you gotta grind out one little whole on the crossmember because it is offset a tad bit.
dude send me a copy of your current bin file and some really detialed datalogs. also what size injectors are you running ? email at djfreggens@aol.com and we will talk turkey

if you take off the headers, that's what an open manifold 3.4 would sound like

Nice! I found I didn't like the way my 2.8 sounded at 4k with open exhaust... too 'fart pipe' for me. Yours sounds nice though!

Hey... Doward here....
Are you doing anything Saturday? If not, you should come down to Corvette Master's in Maitland (Outside Orlando)... I'd love to get a couple 'impromptu' runs with ya.
