91-92 dash cluster in 84??
It's either swithcing to the electronic speedo, or replacing all the stockers w/ Autometers. Doing T-56 swap in car that could do 200mph with some tweaks. I really do want a speedo, so has anyone done the swap?

I might be wrong about this but, I believe the rest of the dash would need to go w/the cluster due to redisign. I've never had the opportunity to see a complete 90-92 dash at the junkyard yet but, from the small here & there's, the clusters don't seem to look anything the same except for maybe the white plastic part the gauges sit in. I'd bet with a little time & hack work it could be done to fit almost right. The other question would be do the clusters plug in the same way as the old style ? (I certainly don't know)

I'm doing it right now, actually. Here's a picture of it partially completed:
What do you want to know?
Is it a Major PITA? Yes.
Would swapping the entire dash be easier? Yes.
Will it work with a big enough hammer, a soldering iron, and enough dremel bits? Yes.

Few more pictures:
You need to grind out ALL four of these supports (one in each corner, and two along the top):
Here's the right corner one done. Don't grind it down this far, you can use part of it to help locate the new cluster depth-wise:
The cluster has to have all the extra tabs and crap ground off it, and the holes along the sides filled with JB Weld or Putty of some sort:
Full assembled Cluster. Notice there is nothing holding the top of the black bezel to the cluster. The spot where it bolted to had to be removed to fit it in the dash. I'd suggest glue or silicone:
Here's how I'm bolting the cluster in to the dash (The screws actually go in from outside to inside--the hole in the dash hadn't been drilled yet in the bottom picture):
Be careful with the screw lengths. I think the length I'm showing at the top is ok, I know the bottom ones are too long...
(That should fix the images problems for good this time...)
I'll be taking more pictures later tonight.

Here's the rest of the pictures:
These show how I put the top screw holes in. I used the stock u-nuts, ground away the front, slid it in, then replaced the plastic I ground away with filler:
Nice white paint inside for good reflectivity. Notice the orange bulbs and the u-nuts for the mounting screws:
Some grinding was needed on the four-gauge unit to clear the u-nuts:
Two problems still to fix--the visibile "non-visible area below line" wording, and the slight gap in the LL and LR hand corners that will let light get through:
The strange gray color is just on the surface... wonder what it is? I plan on painting the front plate semi-flat black so it fits with my 84 interior better... AFTER I sand down the visible words and line:
