Best for AutoX: Pwr or Manual Steering?

<Double posted>
My PS pump is shot. I'm considering a S-10 conversion.
How would this effect handling used in Autocross?

Manual or rack steering is more precise. So if being 1 inch off 'the line' means alot to you then this might be something you want to look into. But also remember that Camaro's are heavy and depending on how wide your rubber is in front, it might be so hard to turn the car that you cant keep it on the track! The best would be a power rack but that would require some s10/4th gen madness fabrication. Z28Racer (the mod) has alot of info on this. I once thought Manual steering would be no problem but he set me straight hehe.

PA racing is the only company I know of making the power rack, or even a manual rack, a fairly painless deal, but as fate would have it, their K member that is required doesnt look like it will stand up well to the stress of roadracing, and so far we have nothing from Road Tech along the lines of them making a K member with stock spring perches and A Arms to match, let alone adding a power assist rack setup to the mix.

Trust me, I muscled a 540hp '68 vette with 275/40 17's fr and 335/35 17's rr in autocross for a few years before adding a powersteering unit--it immediately dropped 2-3 secs off my times.

You'll have to work way too hard with a manual rack. Its more for roadracing

What he said was, there is a way to do it, but the company that makes one of the main parts didnt make it strong enough. So we're waiting for this other company to make their own version of the part.

i drove a 4cyl s10 with a 5spd that had a manual box, even with that it was a pain in the neck to steer at low speeds, like in a parking lot. it can only be worse in a heavier car with wider tires

I'm should be recieving my Road Tech K-Member set up for stock springs next week, or soon thereafter. Would it be to my advantage to see if he could adapt a power rack-and-pinion system from a 4th gen onto it? I'm not too well versed with the different steering systems. Would the power rack save weight?

My former wife started redirecting my priorities. That's why she now has the distinction or EX proceeding the word wife!

When my pwr steering pump went, I had one hell of time trying to steer it (especially in parking lots!). It was pretty hard to turn the wheels lock to lock. I was running 235/60/r15's up front which didn't help either.
