Fuel Mileage, let us know yours...

Hi guys,

Just taking a small poll on what kind of mileage you guys are getting from your carb'd v8's??

Post your engine (5.7/5.0), carb (600/750cfm) and current mileage
MPG?
Litres per km?
whatever?

I've just rebuilt mine and it seems to run good, but this is my first z28 so I'm curious to see how mine fairs in comparison.
It's in storage for the winter but will be rolling soon as the snow melts.

Last time I took it for a burn I was around 12 mpg, but kept it pinned most of the time, I'm hoping to get around 18-20 with mild driving.

Thanks

'84 LG4, all stock. Was around 20-23 MPG when I got the car in 1998. The carb has never been rebuilt so now I seem to be getting in the 14-18 MPG range. Projects for 2005 will be freshening up the carb.

I get around 5-10 MPG in my '71 T/A. Gallons per mile if I have the pedal to the floor!

How much to fill your tank? I think you guys are about 80 cents a litre?

Full size van with a modified 350 and a lead foot with a non computer Q-jet nets me an amazing 12-14 mpg in town and about 17-18 on long trips cruising 75-80 most of the time.

Sadly, when racing, I get 1/2mi. to the gallon that's leaving my pit, burnout, staging, return road, etc...takes 1 gallon exactly per pass.

Interstate driving during cold weather averaged 1.4mpg

street driving/cruising about 2.8mpg

Sounds even worse seeing on the screen in type LOL! But have to admit that's alot of lead footing too and I'm tuned kinda rich so I could improve if I really wanted to.

The bird was getting 12.5 MPG city, mild cam 350, 600 cfm Holley T5, 3.42 gears. I expect the BB to get 10 city 12 HWY.
The camaro should do at least 17 city, since the guy who had the engine said thats what it did in his FS extended cab auto 4X4. Of course I wont know for sure the comparison between induction type/weight difference for a month or so. Sould be interesting.

I think the lowest I have measured it to is 21.2 mpg. That was on a half long trip, but I did some leadfooting and burnouts too, so I guess it could be better with some pure "granny-driving!.

But usually with normal short distance driving, and my usual leadfooting whenever I have the chance, I get about 14,6, and that's the worst I manage to get it too.

Stock, minus cat.

13 City and an amazing 20 highway, if I drive the speed limit. I say amazing because this is a 350 with a 4:10 gear. The T5 helps a bunch....so does the new Holley 650 Avenger carb. I know many have maligned this carb but it replaced a 600 and got better mileage and performance. I am really sold on this carb. I haven't taken this to the strip but I am really confident it would turn a 13 second run. I really have nothing to complain about.

I get 20-22 mpg on the highway at 70+mph.

Don't even bother with around town, as I'm usually having fun, and not worring about mpg..

My specs are in my sig.

last summer averaged 8 MPG, but there was some heavy driving at least a few times each time I was driving.

With a new build up, ill be getting the carb tuned professionaly
cause i seem to keep it too rich and sometimes too lean
i dont like backfires from the carb... it shoots 3 foot high fireballs
hahaha

back fires through the carb normally mean your timing is too far retarded and has nothing to do with your carb.
