My first post here in months...and its a sad one...

Well guys, I found out today my '89 RS is dead. The girl I sold it to in March recently ran it into a tree, after beating it within an inch of life. This came from someone who knew her, the same guy I sold my '89 Formula to. Formula looks good, but the RS is dead.

Hell, most of you here I'm sure have never heard of me, but for you old timers like Tom P, Brian K, Kevin S, Ovrclck350 and some others, you knew me, and more importantly, knew my car, and how perfect it was. Probably never should have sold it.

For those of you who never saw it, here's the site...been so long since I updated it

www.geocities.com/jee89

Shouts out to all of you...I think I should spend more time around here. I miss this site!! And in about a year and a half, as soon as grad school is over, with the Z having been paid for for a few months, I'm off to find a TTA

I remember you, you just got the fourth gen as I joined the board.
Man that bites. Atleast she wasn't hurt. But it does hurt to see a car that has had that much work put into and in good shape get wrapped around a tree and towed away for junk.

I know, I should come around here more. 1,700 posts was a lot of time spent here!! Naturally, most of my time is spent at www.camaroz28.com and www.grandamgt.com, but neither car is really my passion. I NEED another third gen...but I want one when I can afford to buy exactly what I want, and not have to use it as a daily driver.

Kinda wondering if Tom P sees this...he always liked my car I love my Grand Am, and it annihilates the old 135hp 2.8, but nothing will ever be the same as tooling around in that car. I LOVED that car... At work (a car dealership), I even have a picture of it on my desk I took 2 years ago, all nice and shiny with the tops off. All that effort, to have the car end up as a piece of scrap metal...

Never should have sold it

I know the feeling. My Sport Coupe is up for sale now. Hope whoever buys it doesn't wreck it.

Bummer to hear about the car, dude... at least it had some fun with you, though! Wasn't that the car that you still had the original dealer sticker for??

Hey Tom,

Long time no talk, eh?? Yeah, I still have the window sticker, dealer brochure, even the entire service history. I gave her the warranty slips for the radiator, alternator and starter, and that was it. I didn't give her anything, because I knew she'd have no appreciation for them. I may frame the window sticker someday...

I still have a whole bunch of printouts of posts on here and fbody.net from the real early days of my searches online. Ignition mods, chip questions, exhaust questions, etc. I will definitely have another third gen within 3-4 years, for sure. I don't care if I need to throw it in a storage garage, I will have another. That car was like a friend...like I said, I have a picture of it on my desk next to one my sales manager took of myself handing my dad the keys to his new toy back in March...a Sunset Orange '02 Formula 6 speed. That car will be part of my F body collection too, eventually. Sitting in the garage at home with 400 miles

To all of you guys who still drive third gens daily and don't beat them or wreck them, I envy you. I had my Formula for the 4 months following the sale of my RS (I missed the RS so much I bought a POS '89 305 TPI Formie from work), and while it was a diamond in the rough, it was ROUGH. Too rough. $5,000-6,000 would have made it mint, but I can take $3,000 more after grad school is done and buy a MINT, ORIGINAL third gen. For me, that was the better choice. Sure, its fun to take a tired old car and make it new. For those who can do it, I applaud you. Unfortunately, it isn't me...

I sit back and wonder sometimes though what I could have done if I hadn't bought the Z. $5,000 and the RS would've put a mean 350 TPI and new tranny under it, even better paint and polished IROC wheels on it. There wouldn't have been nearly the collectibility or specialness of a 30th, but what if....

hey jason I remember u, guess what this is my first post in months too. my ol '88 has succumbed to a similar fate. sold it, and it hasn't moved in months in the kids driveway, maybe he finally blew out my built and souped up 3200 stall tranny. I drive by every once in a while, and it's always in the same exact spot. I sure miss it, but I'll never go back. If I ever do it'll be an IROC or a GTA. but that's what everyone says.

my Grand Prix stock smoked the crap outta my maro, I'm sure now, it'd be a way bigger margin.

then there's condition.

$2700 camaro in '99 - sold for $1000 in '02
$6100 GP in '01 -- the condition is much better than my maro was.

dang it jason, you're giving me camaro nostalgia.

i'm sad now.

I dug around and this old pic of my old car sums it up well, after all the love of these cars is like none other.

Glad to hear you didn't give away those sheets! Did you find out what junkyard the car went to? Was there -anything- salvageable? It's a bear to make a ragged car "new" again... if I ever get my webpage up (laughter) then you guys will see what I transformed my car from... unfortunately, it's pretty close to that condition again. This summer I'm definately taking a lot of time off of work and taking care of my '86. I can't believe I blew the whole summer... didn't do anything that I wanted to. Hell, that rear 1/2 of Firebird is still in my backyard. I should take the tarp off and make sure it's not rusting away. I should probably paint the bare metal up with some POR-15 to keep it "safe" for the winter... (sigh) What a shame!

Good to see you posting again Jason!

I may know how you are feeling my friend.

In 1973 I sold a car that I worshipped and it wasn't 2 darn months that the guy totalled it and sent it to the salvage yard.

I could not even go out to see it robbed of it's dignity.

I have though built another car just like to as kind of a tribute to the original.

This one hopefully I will never have to sell.

Hey guys,

I know this sounds comical from someone who doesn't even own a third gen, but my first automotive love is and always will be a third gen. My 4th gen fettish I have out of my system...problem is, I love the car so much, and have put so much time and effort into this one too, I can never sell it. After seeing what happened to my RS, I could never let this car go. Even being a special car, with my luck it would go to just another dumb kid. Hell, my Formula may be in the grave before long...a 17 year old kid owns that one too. He seems to take good care of it, but you know how kids are...I swear I am the only person under 20 who ever took PERFECT care of a Camaro, and never abused it. If I had known this was to be the fate of my car, I would've had more fun with it...but I do have the memories.

I'm probably the only person here who bought a new car in order to better their chances of owning the perfect third gen. I know I need a good daily driver, so I bought my '02 Grand Am GT back in July, only taking out a 48 month loan. My hope is when this thing is paid off Summer '06, I can begin saving even more money for that ellusive IROC or TTA I have wanted since I could barely see over a steering wheel. The GA should be good for 200k with proper care, allowing me the $$ to go after that IROC. I know '06 is a long way away, but the way I look at it, any third gen I want now will be around then too, as I'm looking for a 20-30k mile, bone stock original. I will never be able to own a "new" third gen, but I want something as close as possible to new.

In retrospect, I did the right thing still. My 30th is a "better" Camaro, all around. Power, performance, collectibility...but not in style. I swear the RS was the most beautiful car I will ever own, unless I buy another RS. None of the "tacky" stripes and scoops the IROCs have...but I still would rather have one.

To those of you that own them, keep them nice, or make them nicer. Tom, I don't ever want to see the car again. It was mint when I sold it, and thats the way I'd like to think about it. Supposedly, the RF is caved in to the windshield....maybe salvagable, but the car would never be the same. As you guys may be able to tell, I like perfect cars, and go out of my way to keep them perfect. This car will never be the same. Who knows...may have already been crushed.

In any event, thanks to all of you for letting me vent. That picture on my desk is worth way more than a thousand words...who knows...maybe I'll buy a super-low-mileage RS instead (they do exist...), and paint it Medium Grey Metallic if it isn't already. It would be a fitting tribute to the car that made me love cars...

I have a 92' RS that was never neglected by me or it's previous owner, and I am 17. I wanted to sell it a month ago, but I know where it'll head, and there'll be nothing i can do about it. It only has 70 k on it, and it runs like a champ, even if it has occasional starting and braking issues. I plan on keeping it for a very long time, its like a member of my family, I know how u feel, and I wont let it happen to my car. I hope I dont crash it myself, if I do, thers nothin i can do

Good point; didn't think of that. I was thinking more along the lines of giving some of those parts a second chance at life That's part of the reason I love junkyards... I always wonder what stories some of those cars could tell!

If my car could tell a story, here it is in a nutshell...

"I was pampered from September 6th, 1989 until March 8th, 2002. Then I was destroyed within 6 months..."

Sad but true...but I gotta come by this site more often. I miss not talking about resurrecting third gens
