hey man, welcome to thirdgen.org
it sound like you need to either replace your battery or alternator, first try and charge your battery with a 12volt batter charger, if that doesnt work, bring your alternator to autozone and have them test it, if you cant bring it there then pick up a new battery and alternator and that should do the trick
good luck man

well if your engines turning over but it wont start then it could be your starter, matter of fact that humming sound could be coming from your starter if its bad, did you car ever make a grinding sound when you use to fire it up?

I don't hear a grinding noise or ever have I so I think possibly it could be a problem with the altenator so I will be sure to take it to Autozone and have it tested thanks for the info ill get back to you on it but do you think it could be the fuel filter plug not letting gas to the carborator or do you think i should get the alternator tested first.

well because you told me that your battery was dead, then i dont think its gonna be fuel related, at least i highly doubt it, but because you were running your car with a dead battery, it probably ruined your alternator as well, so yes i would definitly have that checked first
good luck man

well now that your service light came on, either go to autozone and tell them what kind of car you have and that its service light came on. then they will use a key to give you a code, that code will tell you whats wrong with your car, so do that, tell me the number of the code(s) they give you, then i can tell you whats wrong with it

Or you can check for the code yourself with a paperclip or a piece of wire in the shape of a u. Just insert it into the ALDL link below your steering column, it should look similar to this:
