Any differences in overhead console map light bezels?
I recently acquired the swivel map light ball socket/lens and trim ring bezel for my console and when installed, the ball swivel portion seems to be very loose in the housing. I can move the swivel portion up an additional 1/8". I have the bezel piece and the ball/lens, 2 pcs only. The bulb is in the console. Are there more parts involved with the map light assembly? The console is a hardtop version. The bezel measures 7/16" from inside face to the back. The ball swivel measures 15/16" from the back to the narrow portion before rubber tip and 1 5/8" total. Pics of all parts needed would be helpful.
Thanks, Allan

I don't think the following link will offer much assistance, but you might check it out:

The bezel and swivel light are the same in both types of consoles. The swivel light housing (in the console) is supposed to include a felt piece that makes the swivel light itself more stable and probably acts as a bit of an insulator for the bulb. Parts: bezel, swivel/lens, bulb, and felt piece. Should you not have the felt piece, go to a hardware store and buy a roll of door/window insulation, the felt type, and cut and trim a piece to fit the housing.
I believe I have these parts. When I arrive back in state this weekend, I'll try to snap some pics and add them to the link.

Thanks for the info. 84 1LE, are you able to snap a pic or two of the felt piece? I know JamesC offered to take a few pics if he has the parts later this weekend. I'm willing to accept all info/pics anyone sends my way. If all else fails, I'll probably make one myself doing the hardware store deal.
Thanks, Allan.

Awesome. Thanks 841LE for snapping those pics. Gives me an idea of what to look for at the store unless you know of a source for those relatively cheap. Looks simple to make so I might go that route. Again thanks.

Since 1LE has snapped pics, I won't bother. I've messed with many of these consoles and never seen one with two felt pieces--but anything is possible with GM. From the pics, both pieces seem right at home. Shoot, experiment and if the lens seems more stable with two, go for it. I used Frost King's felt weatherstrip, which was 5/8" wide X 3/16" thick. It's easily trimmable and will certainly take less time to locate than a boneyard piece--unless you're extremely lucky.

Interesting. I just thought it that is how it was. I've been useing electrical tape to keep it in snug. Off to the hardware store.
