Starter Relay jumper
Is this correct-->Simply connect the large yellow wire and the tan/white wire together?
Now, do you simply add this jumper in and leave it, or do you cut off those 2 wires so they have their own "exclusive" circuit?
I need to know b/c I am removing my VATS. I've already burned a prom w/o VATS but the car still won't start.

two approaches to bypassing the vats starter interrupt:
apply a ground on the blk/yel wire of the starter relay. will emulate the passkey module sending an enable signal to relay engagement coil.
other method is to bypass the interrupt relay entirely by jumpering the starter wire in the ignition switch harness to the clutch switch (manual tranny) or gear selector switch (auto tranny).

Alright, I tried giving voltage to the purple NSS wire (with key switch in on/run position), but nothing happened. Also, when grounding the blk/yllw wire, if you cut it, do you ground the relay side of the wire, or the "car" side of the wire?
What should I try next?

Giving 12V to the purple wire should have attempted to start the car.
Have you tried giving 12V to the purple wire AT the starter itself?
And to answer your question, you would ground the relay side of the wire.

Yep, gave the purple wire 12V+ at the starter and she cranked over. So, does this mean there is a problem in the ignition switch? Would this cause a SES light to stay lit?
Would the fact that the airbag that is supposed to be installed isn't (I wouldn't think so, but who knows)?
Thanks for the help so far...

all that's been determined with the above steps is that there is a break in the wiring somewhere between the park/neutral safety switch and the starter.
to fix the problem, make sure all the connectors are properly seated under the hood and look for obvious signs of corrosion on the thick purple wire that runs to the starter. if source of problem can't be located in the wiring, you'll probably end up running a new wire from the gear selector switch to the starter solenoid. 12AWG wire should be adequate for the project.

I have the same problems with my starter. The purple wire isnt turning the starter and its not getting power when I turn the key. What can I do? What does the starter relay look like. Can I just run a new 12 gauge wire so that I get 12v when I turn the key? Please Help. Where does the purple wire start. Pics are great but anything will help. PS sometimes the purple wire gets power, most of the time it doesnt. This is not hot start.

All I did was run a new wire from my ignition. I put it on a 12v source that becomes hot when I turn the key all the way forward. Works great now. took like 15 min.

same problem here....
im also haveing this problem.... as far as i can tell, there is only one relay under the drivers side dash that could be what im looking for, but there arent even any yellow wires going into it. does the wire go to the fuse box mabey? i tryed to make my starter crank over while out of the car, by applying power directly from the battery, but that didnt seem to work very well. the starter gear just pops out and struggles alot to turn, but doesnt. is my starter toast? or does it have to be connected to the car (grounded)? man... i hope people are still paying attention to this post, cuz i just noticed it now

Step 1: OK remove the drivers side kickpanel. Next get a test light. Hook the wire part with the clamp to a ground source like your frame. Now touch the test light against the fuse box fuse labelled ACC. If it lights up you have a good ground.
Step 2: Look for a yellow wire (it may be a different color so its kinda trial and error) under the dash. ***** a small hole in the wire with the test light. Turn your key forward once. Nothing should happen. If the light turns on DO NOT use this wire and move on to another wire. Turn your key all the way forward as if you are going to start the car. (It might be smart to just disconnect the small wire that goes to the starter so your car doesnt keep turning over when you are testiung the wires.) If the light turns on, your good. That is a hot 12v source when the key is all the way turned.
Step 3: Now butt-connect a wire preferabley 10-12 gauge to this source. Run this wire to the small stud on the starter. There you are, problem solved.
