DJ Sexay kick panels (by REZN8R) will be ready 7/1/02

I did the test fitting, covering, and refitting. Everything looks good. I'm gone from June 15-30, so I'll start taking orders on July 1st. They should ship within 7 days of ordering. The prices I mentioned earlier still stand:
$120 unfinished
$140 carpeted
$150 vinyl
shipping is in addition to those prices.

Here are pics I took last night, one at a time:

Covered in vinyl besides carpet. Like the ones in the second pic laying on the floorboard.

yep...i love the way our 2001 S10 quad cab sounds....it looks to have 4x6 in the dash, 6.5 on the lower front corner...almost a kick panel, and 5.25 in the back....so for my convertible i just plan on imitating that for now....i already have 4x6 CMMD in the dash and i am going to get CMMD 5.25 for the rear(that is all that will fit) and then i need something with some "kick"(no pun intended) so i plan on CMMD 6.5 componets in the kicks....then i need to start saving for the V12/ dual 12" Type Rs.....yeah...everything in the car is Alpine/Infinity....i trust them and the CMMD can handle lots of power yet..."cheap" on e-bay and the Alpine **** is just good stuff all around....I am very pleased....the 4x6 6x9 setup that used to be in the black car sounded sooooo great.

DJ or REZN8R, I have a question about those kicks. In one of those pics you have there is a kick on the floor, the ones covered in vinyl. In the pic there is a hole cut in the back of the the kickpanel for the magnet. I assume that is so that the speaker can be place back farther, but what kind of affects does it have on the sound. I am planning on building some kicks for my car and I like the design that you have. I am just wondering what kind of negative effects the hole on th back can/will have. Thanx alot you guys.

That was necessary with the old style kicks I got from DJ a while back. They were a seperate piece that mounted onto your existing plastic kick-panels. It was only needed because the components I'm running are unusually deep. The new style doesn't have any kind of backing at all. If you seal the whole speaker it will provide a better mid-bass response. It shouldn't however effect imaging or sound quality.

If anyone wants to elaborate on that, feel free.

I was wondering about that because I am planning on putting some Boston Rally 6.5's, which have quite large magnets as well, in there and I opted for the 6.5's because I wanted the mid-bass and it would be an awful shame to go through the work and the extra dough for the 6.5's if they are lacking in the bass department. Thanx.

If I remember right I think they're 3" deep. You should be able to seal off the back if you have some fiberglass experience and your speakers aren't too deep.

I will, but I'll have to make a set first . To give you an idea, here's a picture of the older style ones I have vinyl wrapped in my car right now:

are those mid-bass speakers facing directly out from the kick or are they angle at all? I remember that DJ said that the mid-bass doesn't matter as much what the angle is, I am just curious...it looks like they are straight. Thanx.

There's a slight angle, but they're pretty much straight. Any more of an angle would either cut down on foot room, or make them shallower which wouldn't allow for some of the higher end midbass speakers.

yes, if the absolute best sound quality is what you need, then yes, you should angle the speakers before building the kicks, and seal them off for the best midbass. However, if you are looking for a solution better then any other drop in offering, this is the way to go, especially if foot room is important to you.

Sure, a $600 set of custom kicks will sound better. But at the $150 price point, how can you NOT want these kicks in your car ?

Not always, that does depend on the speaker. Take my JL XR's for example, when I first built the kicks I made them sealed and I thought they had great midbass (the setup before that had none, so by comparison...) although over time I found it to be lacking....then I read up more on it, XR's want freeair, or close to it. Cutting a hole (about 3" dia) in the back made a HUGE difference. Most midrange's do like a non-sealed box, or a real large sealed box (~.3+ft^3).

Just something I've observed...

I'm a bit confused when I saw those pictures of the kicks. Are the speakers covered up by the carpet? I always thought that there was a grill over the speaker and the rest was carpeted. I am very interested in getting some kicks, my 4x6's suck.

The carpeted ones I put up there are the kicks before the holes for the speakers were cut. I would cut the holes, you would mount the speakers and use the grill that came with them.

how would one mount both the speakers and tweeters in them? drill out hole for screws or something? i'm realling interested in getting them... or i might crossover and send the mids (low-3k) to the kicks and leave the highs from (3k-20k) in the dash for my little 4x6s

I'mmmmm Baaaaaack.....

I've returned from a 14 day tank tour in the desert. I'm ready to take orders. If you're interested or just have questions send me an E-mail. I'll be taking orders via E-mail until I get hooked up on DJ's new website.

when/if a set of kicks is made with light gray vinyl is made, i'd like to see how they look in place on a grey interior'd car....(IE, something that looks as near as stock as possible - texture and color)
