Don't fear the rattle can..:)

When i pulled the motor this past winter and reinstalled it, i accidentally rammed the engine hoist into the front nose of my car several times... It pretty much left a chunk of paint about the size of a dollar bill missing from my front end. Tired of staring at it's ugliness, and being that i'm damn near broke right now, i decided to get creative. Total cost: $8.97

The color match is 99.99% perfect, all i need to do now is remove the rest of the masking tape and buff it out so there is no lines visible.

do you have any before pics? what was the process that you did it? did you just use a body spray paint and then a clear coat spray? did you primer it?

i first sanded the area with 220 wet, then i went to 1000 wet, then 1500 wet.

Then i primered it a couple times, and sanded it again with 2000 wet.

Next came the color, 3 coats worth, then a single coat of clear.

just looking at it, it's about 100% better than it was. Mind you this a temporary solution, i'm getting a new OEM nose and a cowl hood here in the next couple months. I was tired of looking at it how it was.

That looks pretty good. I use rattle cans from time to time myself. I really like Dupli spray paints, they seem to go on easy. I have never gotten good results with Krylon.

I know Zepher is no stranger to the spray can, I mean, he did paint his entire car with them.

zupmanZ28, that looks damn good for a rattle can job!

I think I'm gonna do that with my new fenders until I can afford a final paint job. Good work :hail:

dude sweet! Beats 500.00 for repainting the whole bumper. Those engine hoist should all come with locking wheels or something so they wont roll forward. My bigest fear is the hydrolic seal going out and then engine droping on the bumper and smashing it. I know that has happen to someone b4. Now that I fear!

oh and one thing you should fear now... is the SUN! That spray paint will fade much quicker then the original paint so park in as much shade as you can and carry a squirt bottle in your car for the bird ****.

lol! I had a friend who had a honda civic. He painted the whole car with white krylon spray paint. LOL! And Two red racing stripes! 6 months later the white turn to the color of the walls of a someone who has smoked heavy cigares in for 50 years and the red kinda faded into a light red almost pink. That car was such a turd.

Looks good.
Although I'm not sure how well its going to hold up. Sanding the primer with 2000 before you painted is a really fine grit to be sanding with, you can have sanded with 600 or something and it would have been fine.

the nose on it now is aftermkt, and it fits like ***. the corners of it are way off. Im not planning on it lasting long, it only needs to go a month or two, until i get the new nose.

I took the masking tape off a minute ago, now i gotta go get some more 2000 grit and smooth over the tape lines so it blends decent. Then i'm gonna buff it out and be done with it.

Indeed, don't fear the ratt'ler...I did my whole hood by rattle can last summer, still holding up fine (temporary paintjob, of course...)

If you DO decide to rattlecan the stripes, make sure when you mask it off you use Automobile Paint masking tape..had a friend use regular sh*t and the lines weren't crisp at all like they should be...go with the good tape.

Looks awsome, hmm cheap college paint job ideas are coming to me. its amazing what they can do with spray cans now. I did a few fenders for my old 78 bmw 320i with some spraycans and the paint looks really nice. Drop some clear coat on it and you could have a decent paint job (DAMN YOU VAN NUYS PAINT!) for not much as long as you can do the elbo work and don't mind having to probably repaint the entire thing in about 3-5 years. Then again 100-200 for a paint job that looks better than a maco job and lasts about as long can't be all bad.

That looks great! I wonder if I could rattle can my rubber spoiler? I'm going to get a new fiberglass spoiler this fall and have the whole car repainted. I have an 88 GTA with that rubber spoiler. It's flaking off and looks like crap. My car is white, and that black rubber underneath really sticks out. Could I do this to my spoiler so it would last about 6 months or so and look better than it does now? Matt

Make sure you get a special rubber-type primer first before you do it..even then, rattlecan will be hard to stick for a long time as those POS spoilers flex alot...but I could see it going 6 months looking good, no problem at all.

Did you have to use a specific type of primer for the front bumper?

Yup, what skatepunk said...it's the same colour as the two-tone, and will match the GFX. Looks good, IMO.
