Help, we need a junk 9 bolt.
It's for a good cause. A junk 9 bolt rearend in the vicinity of Scottsdale Arizona. It is so TA Performance can use it to make a template/prototype for the aluminum support cover. One with a bent axle/tube, shredded gears, or a 2.77, one legger, drum brake version that is taking up space would be ideal. Just the center section or "pumkin" is all that's needed. The brakes and axles, you can keep. You can even cut the axle tubes off and keep all the mounts if you're wanting to use them on a custom 9" or 12 bolt housing you want to build. The carrier still needs to be in it and possibly the cover on it.

Ever think of requesting CAD files or engineering drawings from Borg (now Dana/Spicer Axle, Australia) in Australia? http://www.spiceraxle.com.au/contacts.htm

I have one you can have if you want to come and get it. It is still a "good" rear-end, if they could ever been considered good..... Worked when it came out of the car anyway. Interested? PM me.

if it comes down to it, you can have the one i shedded this year. only foreseeable problem is that the differential isn't installed in the housing. But i'd be more than happy to chop off the axle tubes, and send both the housing and the differential. Hell i'll never do anything with it anyway...
let me know if you can't find anything else.

If you're still looking for a 9 bolt, I've got one in my garage (2.77 with a broken posi) that you can have provided you pay shipping from the Houston, TX area.

Uhhhh....jmd, if you look a few post back you'll see that mike graycar sent them one. We're waiting for word from TA on when they'll be done and an exact price.
I agree that it needs to be un-stickied.

All the 9 bolt posi B/W are junk
The cone type 9 bolt posi carriers used in the 85'-91 GM F bodies manufactured by Borg-Warner are garbage, the differential carrier and cones are both made of soft materials, as soon as slippage occurs the machined angular contact mating surfaces gaul badly then you have moly lube for oil, this gets even worse as the surfaces wear, the minor end of the cones bottom out in the carrier in two raised land areas, this will also cause the cone pre-load (spring tension) to lessen leaving the posi slipping even more, next all the bearings will take a beating from the moly lube. It is my opinion that the Engineers who design this had only one thing in mind, a short life and junk for the consumer! If you have one around take a look?

The proof is in the pictures, if you have to remove the carrier for any reason please be kind enough and take it apart and provide some pics, then if you still feel it is a good design you can post them? As I have posted earlier in this thread I have several 9 blots and on the outside they appear to work, after taking them apart what is going on inside is another story. I am a diehard Camaro owner who like most wanted the better parts, it is my opinion that GM Borg Warner dropped the ball and sold us planned obsolescence. Most people believed the 9 bolt was an upgrade given is was used with the 5.7 cars, there is nothing upgrade about a sorry design.

Cone posis are nothing new... Lots of rearends came with them. Hell, Auburn still sells them. they are not rebuildable like the normal Clutch type posi units. Oh, the 7.75, and the 7 5/8s rear ends were all junk, and a insult to rearends everywhere. I can't believe they put those behind V8 cars, and then decided wide tires were a good idea.

I'm also curious as to the status of the TA cover (or Miles' cover for that matter). I just got a 9 bolt that I'm going to be setting up and installing in my '84 and I think I'd like to install a support cover if one becomes available in the near future!

Since this is retardedly going absolutely nowhere, who here would like a fabricated (not cast) 9 bolt support cover? I know someone who used to work for TA Performance and had nothing to do with the support covers whatsoever. But he and I together can make some covers. Just unsure on price.
I'm simply tired of seeing this thread so let's do something about it.

I, along with everyone else have been waiting patiently for TA Performance, but am interested in a cover for my GTA. Please E-mail with particulars if you do the project as I would be a buyer for a machined cover. Have you any idea what the price will come in at?? Let me know, Dave.

Well, this topic is over a year old and I am tired of waiting. I'm tired of trying to get parts. I'm tired of making due. I'm tired of paying out the a** for jacked up parts. I'm tired of someone supposed to be making T/A covers and gears. Bye-bye 9-bolt. At least when I do break the new 10-bolt, I'll be able to fix it.

It's a totally doable project. However, I had a line on a 9 bolt housing in December and it didn't happen.
If I can get a 9 bolt in the Phx. area, I can get a functioning prototype made. This would be a thick, aluminum TIG welded fabricated cover, and it would be equal or stronger in strength to any of the aftermarket cast covers already sold.
Since the forum is back up, I'll do research on materials and we'll go from there.
