Monitor EGT,A/F,temps,press without ECM?

Ok my car has been butchered so i no longer have an ECM. Its a carbed 350.

I have an old laptop that i wanted to use to see in real time and log things like a/f ratios,RPM,Speed,Knock sensors, oil pres, coolant temps, multiple EGT's and whatnot.

How easily could this be done? I would have to purchase all sensors except for oil/temp if the OEM ones will work. I have seen jegs sells a kit like this with a brainbox and everything but it is like $5k

A factory ecm can be picked up for 20 bucks at a junk yard, or 80-100 at a parts store. It would be very simple to use as a datalogger. You coudl just run the wires that you needed and unplug it when you don't need it. I ran my car like this for a while with a carb to get an idea of how things worked before i swapped to TBI.

8 channel USB based here
You'll need to make signal converters of course.

Uhhhh.......thats why you use the ECM, you hook you laptop up to the ecm in order to see whats going on with whatever you hook up. The ecm just acts as a signal converter/ reciever. With the new u-tbi/lockers board for the TBI ecm's you have another 8 inputs that can be logged on top of the dozen or so the stock ECM can log. Are you planning on having a temp sensor in every plug of the motor?

Not so much temp sensors but i want to eventually run a EGT probe in each header tube.

But i guess it might be possible to run multiple ECM's but that sounds like too much fun...

Edit: I might go down to the junkyard tomorrow during lunch to try and grab a ECM or 2.

Is their any particular vehicle i should be looking for?
does any particular ECM have more sensor inputs?

My techedge WBO2 is great for data logging. It has 3 aux inputs as well as an RPM input and 3 EGT inputs all in the standard package (unlike the innovative which you have to pay extra for RPM and logging stuff). Right now I have RPM, MAP and TPS hooked up to it, very useful stuff.

Are the techedge units strictly in Australia? I would imagine shipping would be steep if so. That is definately a nice unit though.

I believe they're manufactured in Australia, but shipping isn't too bad on them.

You don't NEED to run the injectors or spark to datalog with the ecm. Just get it powered up and the wires attached. Good to go. Log all the oem sensors and then anything else you can through at it like 2 axis accelerometers, EGT's, pressure transducers, fuel level, humidity, obviously wideband o2 for AFR but the only limitation to the datalogging is 17Hz and 0-5v input. This "kit" will turn those old ecm's into expensive dataloggers and nitrous controllers . It's all good, but no set price yet and still in develop mode.

Not to mention their product line is based on piracy. If you want to verify the piracy, just look at their first production date, and the DIY-WB.COM.. Then read the user's agreement at the DIY-WB site.
