700r4 filter part #

Anyone know the filter part number for use with stock depth pan? The one I got at the parts store holds the rear of the pan up about a 1/2 inch or so.

Re: 700r4 filter part #

Double check the opening in the pump where the filter plugs in. Many times the seal from the old filter stays in place. Doubling up on the seals causes all kinds of problems, but is a common issue.

Re: 700r4 filter part #

I wish that was the problem. It would seem that some of the filters being sold over the counter are a retro filter. It is designed to be used with a deep pan instead of the shallow pan used on the 700r4. I remembered that I bought one for my 94 k1500(4L60E) which has a shallow pan. I bought that one today and it is the right height, but is uses the seal that is supposed to be driven into the pump. Unfortunately this type seal is too large to go into the pump. I will figure something out one way or the other.

There is only one filter for the 700R4. There are different companies but only one type was ever made. For the 4L60E there is 4 different types. The short one for the flat pan. The longer one for the truck. A long one for the Colorado or if your pan has the notch for the suspension. And the Hi-G force Corvette with the extended pickup in the middle.

I too have only seen one depth of a pan ever on a 700r4, but when I went into O'reillys the other day to get this filter and tried to put the pan on after I had installed it, the filter was holding the pan up off the case. This was of course the only filter they carry on hand so I couldn't compare it to any others at that time. Their website lists it as a retro filter, whatever that means. I very well could have gotten one that was boxed wrong or one that had the filter swapped out of another box as the seal on the box had been broken. I was aware of the different filters for the 4l60e that is why I got one for my truck to see if it would fit, since they both use the same pan. It didn't fit because of the differences in the seals. All is good as I found a filter that fits and got two of them.

I have an old no-name filter on the shelf with a P/N TF300. The part number is an Autozone Duralast number. I bought it years ago for my '87 IROC but I never used it. It's still in the box on the shelf.

I typically use ATP brand filters and I go by application (make, model, year of vehicle). The ATP part number for my application is B96.

I've been using ATP filters since the 1960's.

Go to autozone or advance and buy a 3 pack of GM oil drain plug rubber washers. Then take that crappy hard seal off the original filter and install 2 (two) of the rubber seals in its place, with the center of the seals facing up on both of them. When I say up, I mean up as if the filter is installed in the trans

Its worked perfectly for the past couple years for me. No ill effects at all.

Re: 700r4 filter part #

Running into this same issue as appears I have the early 82-87 version of the old filter, the AC Delco kit 8657926 is telling me to replace the oil pan with this one which is 1-1.5mm deeper?

Re: 700r4 filter part #

Figured this out, you have to seat the filter with a smack of your hand and then make sure it's angled a bit as a item on the valve body will rock on it.
