Weird issues with 700r4

So sometimes there's a delay in 1-2 shift part trottle and there's no 4th also while cruising when I shift from OD to 3rd and back to OD and nothing happens as if it stays in 3rd hence no 4th ,

so going thru diagnosing TPS is at .57 closed I throw in another one to see if anything changes later today but sensor is new haven't had issues

Now when cruising when I drop to 2nd I have no 2nd gear or 1st it will just coast till nearly stop and then 1st and or 2nd kicks in

In 3rd it shifts threw all gears

I did notice the other day smoke during freeway accelerating hard and there is trains fluid leaking on passenger side but haven't thought to much of it since it's not leaking on driveway maybe drop or 2 no puddle
.

Once in gear doesn't fill like there's no slipping it pulls hard also when checking fluid levels are good but due see bubbles and no burning smell fluid looks good also

Good this be my issue ?
1-2 shift is delayed and harsh, may not shift into OD: TPS needs to be checked for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, this must be replaced

No 2nd or 4th gear. 2-4 band is slipping: Servo seals may be damaged. Otherwise, 2-4 band is worn out. Transmission must be removed and rebuilt

I'm leaning towards the leak in servo hence smoke during accelerating with increase pressure pushing trams fluid out servo area causing delay in 2nd gear due to not catching and when shifting while driving pressure high till I stop and band catch then 1-2 works could explain no 4th gear also

I'm not to savvy when diagnosing these tranny
I have pressure gauge also and will check pressure may or may not find anything with that but idk but when I have time

Re: Weird issues with 700r4

ahh think it's servo related but 2 and for are def gone just took drive now

2 there but have to rev high

Got extra wide band 2-4 band brand new and fresh servo I can swap out from my built 4l60e

Hopefully it's just the servo issue really don't want to take trans out that's one thing I do hate the most lol

Re: Weird issues with 700r4

With it not catching gears and no lockup/4th, your trans is done.

Time for a rebuild.

Re: Weird issues with 700r4

I think it's a leak in servo transonly has 5k miles and built by probuilt automatic and freshen up by dyno don

And symptoms all happen today usually with worn trans it will gradually notice worsening symptoms and or sudden breakage

But have no worry rebuilding myself have all new spare parts from when I built a 4l60e

Converter locks up
" when driving and ride brake there's jump and rpm as converter unlocks "

So took drive again and 2nd gear work again and shifted into 2nd didn't go fast enough to go in 4th

3-4 clutches are good cause there's no slip in 3rd

Only thing applied is 2-4 band servo applys to 2-4 band also so that's where problem lies
I throw in servo with new o rings I have and see if trans leak is coming from servo

Re: Weird issues with 700r4

you won't know until you open it up. also o-rings usually don't go bad unless they are old and brittle. they usually leak when installed incorrectly or the bore is gouged and tearing the seal up. No point putting new ones on if that's the case.

Re: Weird issues with 700r4

Will be opened up and new one installed at same time

Going to auto hobby should and use a lift for a good day project

Will install my reinforce wider 2-4 band

And FYI have external trans cooler with fan and deep pan for cooking so trans runs pretty cool

Re: Weird issues with 700r4

you're planning on removing the trans, tearing it down, going through it to make sure nothing is wrong, putting it back together and then installing it back in the car in a day? very ambitious, good luck...

Re: Weird issues with 700r4

Yea been threw one it's fairly easy if you have a lift since I have acces to full auto hobby shop full tools press car lifts trans jacks you name it they have it

So that's really makes it easier and faster vs my garage which would take a weekend

Tearing apart trans not that hard really if you ever did it before

I'm just replacing 2-4 bands and servo

3-4 clutch is good and zero slipping Trans only has 5k miles since rebuild

Checking clearances on clutches are easy also once you remove pump and pan it everything comes out together do quick check and call it a day throw her back together

2-4 band gone
3/4 burnt and gone also
Tossed in all new clutches and Borg Warner 2-4 and 3-4
Beast sun shell etc etc
Replaced all hard parts as I had spares of everything most was good tho besides drum but swap them out anyways

Tossed in slotted steels in supposedly good for 5% increase in fuel economy and more efficient that I read somewhere awhile back
Supposedly trans only had 5000 miles and supposedly built by a reputable trans builder then got blown then rebuilt again by we'll know tpi guy not saying no names but anyways
But this trans just looked like and regular stock rebuild with stock parts

So installed shift kit and stiffer accumulater springs along with .500 boost valve and .293 reverse and stiffer spring along with that

I'm sure I'm forgetting other things I did but I can sure say it's a mildly built trans now

Only good thing was it did had a 29 dual cage sprag but I had spare one laying around along with a box full of othe auto stuff

which leads me to believe trans was just stock rebuild and sprag went to crap and they replaced it with a dual cage and left everything else as is smh why half *** work smh
