A PBR Spare like no other
After going through the brake board, and learning what spare I needed to clear my 12" rear PBRs, I bought one off of E-bay.
I got it today, and remembered that it was an aluminium wheel, sooooo...... I did a little work on it
Leon.

That's awesome!
I actually have an open question on the convertible forum about spares. What size is that one? 14"?
btw what is a PBR?
Its the second design rear disc first seen on late 88, and 89-up f-bodies with 4 wheel disc. They had aluminium calipers and near 12" disc rotors, and a much improved parking brake.
What size is that one? 14"?
It's size is 195/75/15.
And thanks for the compliments(Kandied91z), it took about 4 hours total.
I can't help myself when it comes to polished aluminum, thankfully I haven't had the urge to polish my AL driveshaft,,,YET!

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like my work, but really,, too me it's nothing.
I got my start polishing aluminium back in the 70's, when my dad bought some used slot mags(that needed polished) for his new Chevy pickup, and I have suffered from this "illness", ever since
I go out of my way to polish anything aluminium,as if this thread doesn't prove that statement
Anyway, my technique is quit simple, I think!
You will read where others will spend hours and hours just sanding, going as far as 2000 grit.
Not me, I'm not that patient!!
Take this spare for example, after chemical stripping the paint, I used 80 grit on a few rough spots, and then went over most other areas with 180 grit, and that's IT.
I started polishing from there with these:
As you can see, the red cake seems to work the best for me.
After it is mostly smoothed out and shiney, I use this for a final buff and shine:
Now, on my 16 in wheels on the car, I did sand down to 600 grit, which is what I usually do, but this IS only a spare, that won't be seen , so I tried it this way, and was happy with the results!
Sorry if this burst someones bubble, it's just how I do it with out a ton of unneeded time spend, to get where I want my parts to be.
Leon.

I've got the same one, and it doesn't fit!!
It's only a 14" wheel, and hits the caliper before the wheel fully is seated agains the hub.
What size is the one you have? It MIGHT be a different wheel, as far as I know!!

It might save you some trouble, if you ever have to use your spare.

Ah.....OK here it is
Before
After
I'd like to keep this "on topic", and say that polished metal to me is far more appealing, than any other finish.
The RR spike was just an attempt at seeing if polishing steel was any different that aluminium, and I can say that it sure was!!
I'll stick to aluminium, so if you need something polished, I say give it a try, you won't regret it!
My dad thought my spare looked like the old chrome reverse wheels, that were used back in the day!

Looks good!
20th TTAs came with that spare! You could have sold it on ebay for more money, advertizing it as a 20th TTA part!
Now, the question is: Do you leave off the side plastic cover, just to show it off, sitting in that wheelwell space?
Just messing with you,
George
