Aftermarket Sideskirts

Ok, the stock 92 camaro skirts are not really low enough to make the car look nice without slamming it to the ground and I was wondering if anyone knows of some stock-looking skirts that are a bit lower. I really don't want anything exotic, I just want them beefier to make the car look lower. I am about to give up on making this car look good. 3rd gens look wierd sitting 10 inches off the ground and that seems to be how most like them. Not me. Any advice will help, thanks!

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

I'm sure ebay has something.

If you want a low car, lower the car with an Air Ride setup.

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

Ebay really doesn't have anything good and air ride costs a fortune. The car isn't really good enough to pump that kind of money into. I don't know, maybe I'm just pissed that I jumped into a car that has NO decent aftermarket and is poorly designed. I'll probably end up selling the car and hoping I get some of my money back on it. I just wish I could afford a new Camaro. Those things are sick!!!

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

The car has a decent aftermarket and it's a good car. Sorry, body kits aren't high on the list of aftermarket priorities for these cars, and most owners don't care for body kits either. They look great as is, and are plenty low with a set of lowering springs, especially considering how far the nose sticks out in front of the front wheels.

If you want a slammed car, save up a fortune and buy Air Ride.

Though I don't really follow, you think thirdgens should be lower, yet you want to buy a new Camaro which sits on 20" rims and stands literally a foot taller at the roof than a thirdgen? Good luck slamming that pig of a car to even stock thirdgen ride height.

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

I think better/lower side skirts would make this car look 1000% better and cure the "high ridin" look these cars have. That's what I'm lookin for. Btw, the new camaro's look sooo good stock, they really don't need to be lowered!

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

Lowering springs would look better than a body kit. Nothing looks worse than low-hanging side skirts and huge fender gaps between the fender and tire.

I'll give you that the cars have a pretty heinous fender gap from the factory, but seriously...just lower it.

As for the new Camaros, the interior is GM-typical "Fischer Price: My First Interior" and the front end is hideous from the round headlights right down to the big gold bowtie when you consider how many other ways they could've designed it. I realize it is to look like an old Z/28, but an RS-style nose would've been so much nicer IMO.

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

I'm not talking body kit and my car is lowered, I'm just saying the side skirts should at least be slightly lower than the front. Maybe I'm not really making myself clear on what I'm saying about the sides. Oh yeah, my kids have had fisher price toys that used waaaayyy higher quality plastic than 3rd gens any day of the week!

LOL.

No, I get what you're saying though, basically you are looking for stock looking skirts that reach lower to the ground. To my knowledge there isn't anything like that available. I've seen a couple aftermarket side skirts, but they don't reach any lower I think.

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

The style that would look best would be like the ones on your car puma only about an inch to an inch and a half lower, mainly on the ends. It would really help shape the profile of the car.

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

There are some out there, but cost too much for my taste and god forbid anything happened to damage them! http://www.andysautosport.com/chevro...e00100279.html
They appear to be a bit lower than stock, but if they are, not by much. With that you have the problem of the look it gives the car, the bottom lines won't flow well. The bumpers lines will be at the stock heights and the skirts will oddly be lower than the rest of the car. Yes, I know they are the lowest part already, but making this one part lower will make it look off without getting aftermarket bumpers/ spoilers that give the same effect. Lowering the car will evenly move all parts down without anything standing out as if it doesn't belong.

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

theres a guy that lives down the street from me that has just what you are asking about . i asked him about them and he said he brought them from jegs long time ago in 89 when his car was new , but they no longer make them. he keeps the car in his garage or i would get a pic of them.

Re: Aftermarket Sideskirts

I agree with the general consensus that lowering only the sideskirts, even if it's just the corners that are pulled down 1", will make the car look strange.

As it is the sideskirts are about 1" lower then the lowest bit of the front lip.

If it's just 1" the possiby easiest solution is to glue a 1" layer of styrofoam under the stock sideskirt, sand it down to mimick the profile of the stock sideskirt, then glass over the entire skirt/styrofoam construction, sand, paint, done.

Once you found out it looks strange, just repeat the procedure on the front.

By lowering the front lip without further aero work, you'll probably find your car overheating rather quickly.
Best way to fix the cooling is to extend the lower air baffle. Mine is wider and extends down so far I can only clear a beercan when it's lying flat on the road. That's with the car at stock ride height. (I have not done any fiberglass work t the GFX because I like them the way they are, just wanted to improve cooling a bit)

Lowering the entire car 1" will have less of an impact on the under-car airflow and therefor not effect cooling as much.

You might also have a look at this car:
It also looks lower without nescessarily being much lower
