Hood won't open on 91 Firebird, hood spring broke
So after months on finishing up the swap on my Firebird and getting it registered, I went to drive the car and unfortunately dead battery.
I went to pop the hood to throw the charger on it but when pulling the release the hood didn't pop up. I thought the release cable broke, but after getting under the car, I saw that it was still functioning.
After prying the hood up a bit to get a better look I noticed the spring on the hood that "pops'' it up when the release is pulled had broken off.
Any suggestions on how to get this bad boy open. I've tried prying it up while pulling the release and pushing it up from the bottom to no avail. The hood shocks are still good, so I thought one of these options would work, but after many failed attempts, it just wont budge.
Anyone experience something similar and able to pop it open?

Have a buddy pull release cable while you first push down then try pulling up on hood. That should make it release. Are you sure the release is working as it should?

Jack up the vehicle and remove the two bolts that secure the latch bar. Can only be seen and done from underneath. Did this at P-N-P one time to remove a hood with a broken latch. Good luck.

I had actually just oiled it two weekends ago. It was working well before the spring broke off
Thanks, I will have to try that. Looked like tight quarters, but that may be the only way at this point.

You should be able to push up on the bottom of the hood with a rubber tipped wood stick while someone pulls the latch to open it.

My first project on all the used 3rd gens I've bought was getting the hood open.

Our Camaro had a similar issue. The fix was to push the hood release handle 'back in' to the panel. Somewhere in it's previous history, the return spring was weakened.
