Radar Detector Wired into CD Player

So I've got this Valentine 1 Radar Detector and it came with a kit to hard wire it into the vehicle's electical system (instead of a cigarette lighter). Any way, does anyone see any problem with me wiring it in to the power wire for my CD player? The Valentine draws very little power - the fuse is only one amp.

You could always wire it to the cigarette lighter wire; I did that with my Uniden detector. Don't forget to install a fuse on the detector's wire!! I ran my wire up along the a-pillar on the passenger side, and brought it out at the base of the "swivel" for the passenger's sunshade. I tagged a piece of velcro to the sunshade so if I'm feeling friendly, I can unplug the radar detector, put it away, tuck the wire end under the velco, and the passenger can use the sunshade.

Yeah, If it came with a thing for the cigarette lighter also, That will have a fuse in it. Take it apart to see what Kind of fuse it is. (Amp rating) or it might say somwhere in the Radar Book.
Anyways yes you can hook it up to the powerwire on your hu. But use an inline fuse the same rating as the one in the cigarette adapter.

Yeah the kit it came with is sweet, with an inline fuse like on my amp power wire. I'm thinkin I'll hook it into the power wire for the CD player so it won't get constant power. The wire for the radar detector is narrow enough that I can run it along the forward edge of the headliner and then along the A pillar so I won't have to cut anything.

Not really sure how well this would work in a Camaro, but a few years back, I drove a Toyota something-or-other home for my girlfriend's mom, and it had a metal L-bracket on the dashboard (kinda on the side of the gauge cluster, 'cause the cluster was one of those that "humped up" from the dashboard), with a small hole drilled in the dashboard where the bracket was mounted. The power wire for the radar detector was pushed up through the hole, and the detector mounted on the bracket, which was painted to match the interior. It was pretty sweet, and kept you from having to mount the detector on the windshield. I wish that I had gotten pics of it, but like I said, this was many years ago.

Since I run wires for a living I would rather run the wire all the way down to the fuse box with a spade connector at the wire.

It's just like Alex Rodriguez - expensive, yes, but very effective. Car and Driver's test says it all. This thing has so much range, it's just unreal. Alot of money ($400), but man does it work.

I'll keep this post updated as to how it goes. I'll probably tear into it today or tomarrow. Thanks for all the reply's!
