Performer RPM Air Gap + Firebird + Stock Hood

I did a search on this, but got conflicting information. Has anyone run a Performer RPM Air Gap on a Firebird with a stock hood? Will it fit?

Thanks

BTW - It has a Demon 4bbl on top and a 14x3" air cleaner. If you have any questions about the car, the guy is a member here. Send a PM to Trevor Jacek.

Yes it fits. you need a drop base air cleaner. the lowest ones are the old 60-70's Z28/ L-88 corvette ones.

Search my posts for pics and info keyword: L-88

may need some mods to fit a TBI setup. Fuel lines throttle brackets etc.

Basic parts store "chome section" 14in air cleaners will work, thats all he uses.

Mine works with a dropped 14x3 K&N filter, however its got 166,000 miles on it and the sagging motor mounts might be saving me. This is why I can't switch to poly mounts.

Also, removing the black insulation under the hood bought me some room.

It should fit under the Z28 hood... I have the 'glass Z28 hood, and there appears to be lots of room, though I haven't installed mine yet.

yes it fits. I have the RPM air gap, Holley streetadvenger carb,& K&N 14x2 drop base air cleaner with extreme air lid. Also my hood is a stock 83 Power buldge hood like the formulas.

I'll probably be pulling out my engine to do a few other things when I install the intake... probably in about 2 mos or so?

That intake doesn't look any real amount taller than my Toker though, and I have lots of hood clearance with that intake.

I tried a x-celerator intake this weekend, but its was too tall. Just for mockup. I should have any problem with the RPM airgap fitting.

Car: 1985 IROC

Transmission: 700r4 w/corvette servo
Axle/Gears: no idea
Im having hood clearance problems myself, Im using a performer rpm intake *not air gap* but since I have a qjet I have to use an adapter plate, with a 2 inch air filter squished, it fits. barely. Ill afraid of reving it too hard because I dont want to snap the air cleaner off because of the hood or soemthing along those lines.

Let me know if you have success.
