Sound Deading a Vert, anyone do it?

So I did search, but the results were incredibly light, probably because it's a stupid idea!

But I figured I'd see if anyone has done this since 2014, have you put hushmat, soundskin, or any other sound deadeners in your vert?

I'm getting ready to do my sound system and while I have the interior opened up, now would be the time to do it. I know most of the noise will come through the cloth top or the open air, but does anyone think/have experience of a significant and worthwhile sound reduction from the floor/road-noise ?

I dont have a reply, but I am interested also. Starting to put my 92 TA vert back together after stripping it to a shell. Good question.

The best thread is this one. He uses Ensolite Peel and Stick which is sold by raamaudio

No experience, but ran across a thread the other day that said dont put dynomax near cat converter, it may melt. no wonder so many have troulbes with a/c ! image 2 cats! I'm thinking best bang for your buck would be the doors and kick panels. seems the carpet and jute should do a pretty good job already.

I'm too cheap for name brand stuff so I went the home depot peel 'n seal route. It was a night and day difference, although I went from almost no carpet to new carpet and sound deadening. Totally worth it. Even with exhaust dumping directly underneath it made normal cruising so much better.

Does that include driving with the top down?

Though lately I've been kind of lazy about putting the top down, I generally try to utilize it in the down possible as much as weather permits

Yeah, I was thinking about at least doing the trunk and maybe the doors, although I wonder how much our doors would like the extra weight?

Re: Sound Deading a Vert, anyone do it?

IDK, so much sound comes from the top, that I can't imagine it really helping that much. On a coupe, I could see the benefits of that, but a convertible?

Re: Sound Deading a Vert, anyone do it?

Is the top for your 92 lined? My 89 is single. I wonder if it makes much difference. I prepped my doors for audio upgrades. IMHO it is absolutely required if putting drivers in the door.

90-92 got the lined headliner. The top is basically identical except for the liner AFAIK. However 92, had a different way they mounted the top... Not sure what changed.

Yes definitely worth it. Lowers the heat from exhaust as well as road noise.

Nice job! Cool to hear from someone whos actually done it. I was leaning toward just doing the trunk but maybe I'll save up and do the whole thing. I'd like to keep the car forever so I may as well go all out.

Re: Sound Deading a Vert, anyone do it?

i always gut my cars, clean any rust and dirt then 3m undercoat everywhere even around the rear wheel wells and tail lights. first, that keeps any rust from forming. then i use sound and heat barrier. water is the first enemy.

Re: Sound Deading a Vert, anyone do it?

I have used a product from Lowes that was basically the same thing as Dynamat, it was narrower, about 12" vs the wider panels, and it is a little thinner. But the principal is the same. IT is for Flashing roofs. The up side it is cheap, the down side it has a sticky tar backing, which is not awful if you do not live in a hot southern state. Up here in MI it has given me no issues. Some people have complained it will weep out tar if it gets too hot, not had that problem.

I used a product called peel n seal. Ghetto, but super good stuff for higher pitched vibrations.

That is the stuff!!! I used it as well, worked great! 2 layers is about the same density as the dynamat and way way less expensive.

I "Dynomatted" when I replaced the carpet and it made a noticeable difference in sound dampening.
