So When i got my camaro it never overheated one day while i was cleaning it i got to the engine bay and noticed there was no coolant in it and never thought anything of it since it wasnt overheating not even coming close well i then took it to a shop a week ago and when i got it back it was overheating very quicky there was a brown liquid in the coolant tank and i dont know i just drained it out and put new coolant in it well it started o overheat again and im just baffled i have a belt driven fan on it and when i turned the car on i checked it and it still works perfectly as it always has does anyone know what could be wrong with it?

Check between the radiator and condensor and see how much stuff (leaves paper etc) is packed between them. You may want to go ahead and change the t-stat and other maintance things if it has been a while. I live in Arkansas where it gets Africa hot and I use a 170 GM stat part # 10220957. I use about 35-40% antifreeze (green) and distilled water with 2 bottles purple ice or red line water-wetter. When I have it I like to use 1 small bottle of napa lubricant. I use a taurus fan but I see you use a belt driven fan which is old school but should cool the car if it isn't a flex fan. Oh, and by the way if you are low on fluid then you obviously have a leak and should try straight water untill you find the leak. You can add some dye to see where it is leaking and fix it before spending the money on the expensive fluids.

I would flush that baby out for about an hour and then find that leak to start with.

What did you bring it to the shop for?

How Long have you owned the car? Cooling system maintenance?

Is the engine stock?

When you said "There was no coolant in it" were y ou talking about the Radiator or the Overflow res?

Flush it, and pressure test your cooling system to find the leak. The rusty stuff is from the cast iron (block heads ect) when it over heats it frees up the rust.

I took it to the shop to get a custom exhaut and new master and slave cylinders reminding you before there was no coolant in it and no overheating then they put coolant in it and now it is overheating i replaced the t stat and that solved the coolant getting to the engine now its in there and it just sits

Also no coolant in the overflow i dont know about the radiator but i did pull the plug in the radiator and let everything drain out pumped water through it and out the drainage then refilled it i just tested in a couple minutes ago and none of the hoses were hot just warm ane the engine overheated again i then cut the car off and then the top hose started to get hot i honestly dont know whats going on anymore

try it with no thermostat-if you have coolant flow trhough the radiator
with no thermostat in place,there might not be proper "bypass"flow past
the thermostat to warm it up to opening temp before hot spots develop
in the heads and you get boiling.

I think i got it i filled the radiator up with water and let me tell you it was a lot and it stays cool now sO should i just drain that water

Make sure that your water pump is circulating

It sounds like your thermostat is stuck closed and there is no water circulating. They're cheap anyways, you should replace it to start with. Then without the radiator cap, run your engine to normal operating temperature and look for the water inside the radiator to move or circulate.

Drain the block and radiator, refill, let it get to normal operating temperature then once the thermostat opens fill the radiator the rest of the way up

Sounds like its not circulating
replace thermostate
flush enitire coolant system
check for coolat flow in radiator to see if it flows you can also do that with thermostate removed also
then i guess you can check water pump if you dont see no flow thru radiator
