Overflow tank under battery tray?

Overflow tank under battery tray?
I've read a couple places where some have claimed a fourth gen overflow tank will fit under the battery tray. I am having a really hard time with that, even after some heating and bending of the neck, and some cutting, and am wondering if anyone has pictures. So any pictures of a nice looking coolant tank/ coolant reservoir, please post them! I have relocated the battery to the trunk, So it should look really clean when I'm done!
Thank you everyone!

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
I did read through that thread before posting. All the pictures are gone, and I didn't see where anyone went through their process for mounting it without cutting the battery tray (which it's what im trying to avoid).
Thank you for the speedy reply.

Man, I'm an idiot... I left out one huge detail. The cutting I've done was on the reservoir itself. And im looking for a way to do it without cutting the battery tray. I want it mounted under the battery tray.
Sorry I failed to mention that.

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
Most people cut it out and then use the battery tray that is there on the overflow tank like the fourthgen cars do. One thing i would add is this sits about as low as i like on my car without fear of it hitting or sitting lower than the rest of the car making it a visible eyesore. Even then i had to modify my fender brace to clear part of the tank and retain the brace. Only problem i ran into is on a Firebird the Battery is on the drivers side and the air filter housing is on the passenger side

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
You'll never get it to fit under the tray and even if you did, the filler neck would not be very accessible.
My pass side undertray is already occupied with electricals and I wasn't interested in cutting the car
or modding another 4thgen overflow filler neck to fit on the driver side so... I made one to fit under the
radiator support lip and it is hidden out of sight when the filter box is put back in place. Exactly like I
wanted it. It holds 2 quarts. It is only test fit in the pictures.

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
Just posted pics on the other thread you replied to (2nd in link post #4). I don't have pics anymore w/out the battery installed. You will have to trim the 4th gen batt tray for a more flush install, but its not entirely necessary. I like it this way because i did'nt want to cut the tray and did'nt want the battery sitting so high. I don't have any problem reaching/removing the cap.

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
1LE, I believe he literally wants the entire 4thgen tank (completely) under his current metal batt tray w/o cutting anything on the car and the filler neck poking up thru the side fender/frame rail opening (or so I gather).

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
Deadbird,
I really like your design!! That looks amazing! I may end up having one made similar to this, but with a filler neck of some sort (it may be small, but useful lol). Thank you very much for the idea, and feel free to make me one too!! haha But seriously, you wanna fab one up for me? I assume there is another 1/4npt fitting on the bottom somewhere, right?
84-1LE,
I am still intrigued about how the install actually took place. Did you remove the triangular shaped fender brace at the bottom? Has any sheet metal been cut for fitment? and Where does the filler neck come up? I tried like hell to make one fit. I even cut off the battery tray portion for more room, and still had a lot of trouble. This one is now, unfortunately, unusable. But would be willing to try again If I could see how it was done!!
Thank you both for the help!

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
That was definitely my thought! I even entertained the idea of using a hole saw to cut a round hole in the tray for the filler neck right by the frame rail (so the filler would come up right beside the radiator cap). Really want something that will look nice, and not protrude from under the airdam. I'm really starting to think that tank is just too tall to work for me.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...her-fluid.html .It started as 4th gen windshield washer tank, but i added the 4th gen expansion bottle to it.
No cutting of any sheet metal. Only cutting was to the 4th gen piece

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
Thats how mine is mounted. From above the original battery hold down bolt doubles to hold up the 4th gen part below. Opposite that (not visible in pic) there is a 10mm bolt from below going up into a stock threaded bung on the 3rd gen batt tray to hold the expansion bottle up on that side.
Seeing your pics and despite owning a 91 for quite a bit, I forgot that underside the nose was open on the Camaro.
It was the final reason I abandoned the 4thgen tank on the 'bird.

Due to some workplace changes, I don't (currently) have the ability to weld aluminum anymore and arc welding aluminum is no easy task (for me) since it's not something I have a lot of hours in doing.
Yes, there is a fitting behind the 'fluid level sight tube' that allows it to connect to the radiator and one at the top on back for venting/boil over.
I considered something for fill but, in a proper sealed cooling system, you really should never need to add coolant.

Re: Overflow tank under battery tray?
Deadbird,
I'm sure I can find someone to help me out!! Thank you though! Again, very nice looking setup! Hats off to you!
84- 1LE
Thank you for the pictures and everything! I bet the Camaros and GTA's have more room for the bottom of the bottle, my fender curves inward quite a bit, and contacts the bottle. Preventing it from sitting flush with the bottom of the existing battery tray. I will most likely be working up a tank like Deadbirds. Again, Thank you so much for all the help from both of you!!
