Solenoid and fusible links = no start HELP
OK.. Now that I can finnaly post on here. I'm 16 and just build up a nice 355 for my 91 RS. I just put in a new starter yesterday, but it still won't turn over or click. Nothing at all. I can jump it and it will turn over, but i prefer to use the key I replaced 2 of the fusible links but i might have got one of them confused with another. So my ? is does it really matter if there crossed even if they all go to the starter post? If you need anymore information from me i usually check in here everyday. THANKS and sorry for being so long. Brian

All of the fusible links at the starter solenoid go to the same large post. The purple wire with the small terminal lug goes on the small post marked "S".

Thats how I have it wired. The whole problem started when we went to change the dist because it was off a tooth the BAT wire on the cap grounded against the carb linkage. Thats what blew the fusible links. I have replaced all of them except one. I guess I will do that one too. Could something be wrong with the ignition switch? I know its not a VATS problem because the fuel pump primes and the gauges and everything work now. Any more info would be appreciated.

Vats has nothing to do with the fuel pump priming or the gauges working. The two items that VATS controls is the fuel injectors and the starter enable relay. You probably blew out the ignition coil and the igniton module and maybe the pickup coil when you shorted everything out. A safety note here, disconnect the battery first before you try that again.

OK. If the coil was bad then why would the car run. I jumped the solenoid and had the car running. So what i am going to do till I can properly fix it is wire a starter switch. Im still clueless on why it wont work with the key. As I said i'm 16, therefore I have little understanding of electricity. Could that relay be bad? I know its in the kick panel
Thanks for your time

There is one of the fusible links that goes to the ignition switch, it is called fusible link "B" If it is bad, you will get not power to the ignition switch and since you hear the fuel pump priming and the gauges work. That is not the problem. The starter enable relay could be bad, it is located in the left kick panel. Does the security light come on and stay on when you turn the key and does your key have a pellet in it?

The key has the pellet in it and the security light comes on for 3 seconds i think. Then goes off. Thanks for your time.

Can anyone tell me if they think that the Starter Enable Relay could be bad? I don't want to go spend the money on it from GM if its not the problem.
Thanks
Thanks
