WTB: 1LE front brakes
It has been about tens years since my last 3rd gen and I bought a nice 91 Formula 350 recently.
I'm looking for a complete 1LE front brake setup. If you don't have the rotors, pads and lines I'm interested in that also. I would prefer a setup that was originally installed on a 3rd gen or was bought from GM. I know about the aftermarket 1LE front kits out there but would like to stick to original equipment if possible.
Yes there are bigger better brake setups out there so no reason for troll comments. But have at it if you will or you just can't help yourself. haha
Thanks

You're in for a rude awakening. Cheapest option is to buy new loaded calipers with the carriers and eat the core charges. Even then most sources don't offer the calipers that way. I've had a 'want ad' out just for the carriers since July without even a nibble.

I know a few guys with complete setups that are thinking's about selling them. They will not sell parts off them.
The rude awakening is trying to piece a setup together like you seem to be attempting.
Like I said if I can't get an original setup there is always the aftermarket 1LE complete setups.

Re: WTB: 1LE front brakes
Oh, I'm not averse to buying an entire assembly to get what I need. No one is offering anything, is the thing. I've already got an entire setup on the shelf ready to install, I'm working on completing a second set for the other car. Backup plan is LS1 brakes. The way things are going, even the pads for the 1LE fronts are going to be hard to find before much longer. They've been on clearance for a few years now.

What's the going rate these days? I may have enough parts for 2+ complete sets, was planning on putting one set on my 87 but have no plans for the rest. Have NOS front calipers, a set that need to be rebuilt, spindles, need to go through and sort it all out.

Re: WTB: 1LE front brakes
I found a complete original setup and purchased it last week.
I will entertain purchasing another complete setup.

Re: WTB: 1LE front brakes
I might be interested in the NOS calipers and the spindles. Are the spindles modified standards?

Re: WTB: 1LE front brakes
In my case this is important to me for my car. I want it to be gen correct and it had to be a true installed setup on the assembly line. Later on GM started selling 1LE brake parts that were not exactly like the original installed setups. They were pretty much the aftermarket/clone setups.
Since this was a very important part to me, I was willing to pay more than probably most people out there.
I did draw a line though. I was not going to pay more than a complete new aftermarket 1LE setup. Important but not that important.
As in so many things.... it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
With so many variables, spit ballin $700-$1000. New, used, ready for paint, needs calipers rebuilt, needs new rotors etc etc.... makes it almost impossible to give a better estimate of value.

Re: WTB: 1LE front brakes
There is a set of NOS spindles and a NOS PBR caliper for sale on the feeBay now. Those spindles are the ones GM sold later on. GM did the mod to standard spindles and called them 1LE spindles.
What they are asking for those is way overpriced IMO. Modify a standard spindle yourself or someone else do it and have the exact same thing for a fraction of the price.
Look at the pics and you will see where they were cut, it has a smooth shiny finish. The original run had a rough texture from the casting mold in those areas.
Performance wise there is probably no difference between GM and the aftermarket/clone setups. There are other slight differences between the 2 but I don't believe they effect anything.

Re: WTB: 1LE front brakes
Back in the day it was about 1200- 1500.00 to swap front from standard spindle/brakes to 1LE spindle/brakes from GM. IIRC I know I have a cost list someplace.
