Cheapest engine swap yielding most power

I'm looking for 13s, yet retain daily driver gas mileage. I've seen it done. I want to keep at least 15mpg (currently 21mpg avg with my 305TBI). Tell me what i need and what I should do, etc.

Engine: LT1
Transmission: 700r4
You could swap an lt1 like I did. gas mileage is good and it's about 300 hp . I've added headers and I have done the swap for 2500$ canadian, everything included.I had a 305 tbi before, the swap is not that hard to do .

Car: No more birdy
Chapest way to obtain your goal is N20 and a cam.
The more expensive route is of course bump up the cubes "327, 350, 383, 400"
It all depends of what amount of $$$$ you want to speend. $$$$$$=fast

If you can do all of the work yourself then I would say a 383. I will have all of 2000 dollars in mine. Of course I pay labor only to the machine shop as I don't have that at home. The engine I am building was built and dynoed in one of my magazines at 450 horse and 470 ft/lbs. torque. Not bad for 2 grand.

l can run 13's in the 1/4 with a near stock 305. l've got runners, an exhaust, 150 HP nitrous shot and 3.73's with a few cooling mods like trans pan heat sink, synthetic gear lubes, and a rearend cover strenthener with heat sinks. l can still pretty easily get 15-17 MPG on the street and almost 20-24 mpg on the highway. the nice thing about nitrous is its there when you want it, and not when you don't. personally l think power adders are a really easy and good way to hit low strip numbers with high MPG. numbers. the downside to a blower is it's high initial cost, but the downside to nitrous is the high cost of keeping the frost in it.

good luck
