Car: 1991 Trans Am GTA
Engine: 350 tpi
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.42
PULLING MOTOR OUT!
Hi yall...i got some questions im going to pull my motor out to drop another 305 in it due to a stupid mechanic doing a poor job on my car...my questions is where do i start i got the intake off and all the tpi stuff off where do i go from here...this will be my first motor swap but am excited to take it on to get my baby running again...all help would be greately appreciated thanks.

also buy a haynes/chiltons manual. label everything (EVERYTHING)and go as slow as you can. take before pictures to reference how to assemble.

well i know the tpi stuff front and back and i got all that off i got the distributor off and everthing..i just need the mounts and what else?

well im leaving the transmission in the car tomorrow i will start the process of removing the bolts and flexplate.

I just pulled my 305 TPI last weekend. Do everything ape said, label everything (electronic connections). I ended up dropping the k-member a few inches so I can reach the back bolts on the top of the bellhousing. Then its straight up...

I'll chime in too. Label everything, and go buy some sandwich bags, and bag up every bolt and label the bags, makes things WAY easier. (I just did that today, taking my motor apart tomorrow, and pulling it out saturday) Good luck!

thats exactly what i did with the sandwich bags......and i labled the injectors and all that stuff everything else i put masking tape on and labled it...does anybody know how many botst i have to take off to disconnect the transmission from the motor??

yup. I used masking tape, a sharpie, and sandwich bags too!

i just recently did my first swap and thought i would let you know its pretty easy as long as you dont have distractions. make sure u dont over tighten the bolts on your chains when you bolt them to the block, just snug will do.
