Switching from a 305 TBI to a 383 carb

I have a '91 bird with a 305 TBI. I would like to dump it and go 383 with a carb, but my question is what all needs to be done with the parts that are connected with the computer. Gauges,Trans,ect....

going to a carb is easy, you can just leave your computer alone.Besides throwing a check engine light, everything should b fine. You can use everything for your gauges.I beleive you will have to get a knock sensor though.what carb are you planning on getting?

I'm just starting to think about the mod, so I haven't picked out anything specific yet. I'm trying to see what others have used and get a understanding of what will work and what won't, so I have a good plan of what I'm doing before I put a wrench on the car.
So I would like any and all input you guy's have about what you have done on your cars, and what combos work the best for you.

I'm in the process right now for the same swap. I decided to take the computer out though and make a new wiring harness. So far everything has worked out well, but I still don't jave the engine in the car, so we'll see what happens.

I used to have a '72 Z-28 that I built the 350. It had a 12 bolt with 3.73 gears out back. I had a lot of fun with that car. I really like the body style of my '91 and she gets a lot of looks because she is that dark green with the gold rims and Med. Beechwood interior. I'm not one to really care about gas mileage I have a 2000 Blazer for those kind of things. I just want to turn this bird into a real street/strip car. I plan on keeping this car for the rest of my life, so I'm going to have some fun with her. Now where I live we have a lot of guy's driving BMW and Porsche Stangs and Vetts, I'm wantto get my '91 to hold her own against these guys.

Re: Switching from a 305 TBI to a 383 carb

I am doing the same thing with a 92 rs camaro. Any help would be appreciated. I am new to the forum, you could email me @ jmsweet317@gmail.com if you wouldn't mind. I wish I had something to offer but all my knowledge is motocross racing.
