What brand high flow cat?
I have an '89 TA GTA with a 350. I'm going to get Hooker headers coated with Jet Hot and I already have 3" catback to the crossflow flowmaster. When I get my headers I want to put a high flow cat on there, but I don't have any idea what the best brand is. Could you guys help me out. I live in California and some people say that it won't pass smog with the high flow cat. I don't know.

The shop I took my 'bird to used a CarSounds free-flow cat. I was told it was smog legal, but won't know until Dec '01. Call around to your local muffler shop (NOT Midas, Meinke, etc.) to see what they have to offer. My cost (with the system) was about 125.00

Random tech is probably the best but very expensive...Catco is also good, i haven't heard to much about dynomax. I'm gonna go with Mor-flo cause i need two and dont have $300 to spend on cats, and the only person I've heard from who has them was happy with them.
As for smog legal just make sure they are the right ones...I think 3 way with the air tube

Jet Hot is company that has this special coating they put on headers. I'm buying them directly from Jet Hot, they sell hooker headers all ready coated, they are going to charge me $540 plus shipping.

I have a Catco 2.75" model. It works very well. No loss in power over the gutted cat I used to have, and the exhaust sounds much better now, and equally loud. Just deeper. Dynomax cats are supposedly good also, and Random Techs flow the best. Carsound cats are infamous around here for being trash... ask Tom Keliher about that, he can back it up.

Hey, Hooker sells their headers already coated too, probably cheaper than jet hot, but still too much for me, I am looking to pay under $150 and have found a couple of palces that will do this, its a little more trouble but costs much less.

I put a CatCo cat on my Formula when I had it and it still passed emissions with absolutely no problems at all. When I put on my new headers I'll be putting two more on my GTA.

Thunder Racing http://www.thunderracing.com sells Random Tech cats. I think IRS http://www.racenet.net sells the Mor-Flo line of cats, although I don't know if they have a model that's a direct fit like the RT cats. Oh, concerning JEFF'S GTA original question, you'll have no problem passing an emissions test with a high flow cat. I installed an RT cat a couple months ago, then went and passed the treadmill emissions test (IM-240) with only 15 miles on the new cat. Even w/out my EGR hooked up and no air pump/tubes, it passed with almost zero emissions. I'm tempted to re-install my gutted cat and have them do a practice test to see how close that would come to passing.
