I am not sure, but it was a few years back at the Trans Am Nationals... If it was not that one it was another very similar to it. What mag was that in?

Thanks John, It is in the feb 87 popular hot rodding.
T,
I think there was something in the air when they designed that series, they had a "Kamm-back" for each Generation, I have a picture or something around here for a 4th Gen, and I want to believe they had the 2nd Gen at the Trans Am nationals at one time as well... All are... well... unique, like so many things it is a love it or hate it thing most people seem to hate it... no wonder they never made it into production. I think I have read or there is something lurking in my brain that thinks that they originally called it the GTA... Back in 1985 or 1986...
The last variation (4th Gen) was called the Hurst Hauller...
The White car and the Red car may or may not be the same car... I have conflicting memories that tell me that the white car was repainted red, and another that said there was two cars... someone else may know more on the car(s)...

John, Pontiac built two thirdgen cars based on 85 or 86 T/A's. One white one that is in a private collection, and the red one (which may have been sold recently with alot of GM's collection). I believe the GTA badges were added when the GTA's came out to make the red one seem more up to date.
The second gen at the T/A nats was originally a 77 or 78, but the front clip was updated to 79-81. That car was also part of the GM Heritage collection, I do not know if it was auctioned or not.
I think the owner of the white thirdgen also owns a second gen Kamm back Firebird too. There was a feature on the white car in Pontiac Enthusiast a few years back.
Hey John, not sure if you remember but the red car went thru Barrett Jackson this year...2 cars before the twin turbo 91 TA.
I've also heard conflicting stories on the cars. IMO I believe they were 2 different cars. They built a few extra Kamm hatches that could bolt to other cars.
When I went to purchase the IMSA Firehawk the owner of the Hawk had the Hurst Hauler and the 2 of 1 inverse 99 TA convertible (blue and white.). Got to drive the Hauler...kool car and quite quick but has a story that I won't post here.
All this to say they built extra Kamm's that could go on other cars.
T,
It would make sense that they simply set up to modify the hatch, it would not be that difficlut to do honestly once you made the mold, you could reproduce them...
I am pretty sure Hawks will not get many requests for this tho.
