Few of a kind find

Hey guys n gals,
just want to tell my story about how I acquired my '92 camaro b4c/1le. Six months ago I wrecked my Mitsubishi and was in the market for a replacement. Being a chevy guy I always wanted a full size car with a v-8 and a manual trans. So I get online and find a guy sellin a '92 z28 with a 5-spd and a 350. Not being familiar with thirdgens I figured this was the perfect car. I blue booked it and it was valued at 1800. He wanted $2500 and I got em down $1700. So I drove 90 miles to test drive it and when I get there I notice the car has RS badging. Still not knowing, I'm asking the guy for z-28 documentation. He's searching the whole car trying to find the paperwork that shows z-28 and he finds nuthin while tellin me it was a CHP car. He then tries to show me where the light holes used to be and the spotlight and so on and I just start to lose interest. I test drove the car and it definately did not pull like a 350. I check the vin and confirmed that it was a 305 engine. The seller was tryin hard to convince me that the CHP dropped a 350 in the car and that it was a z28 with rs badges. I almost left until I noticed the rear disc brakes and wondered why a '92 rs would have rear disc. I finally decided to buy it figuring $1700 for a v-8, 5 speed car wasn't bad even if it was a 305. After doing a tune up and having to order parts for a z28 I later realized that it was a B4C. I later confirmed it when I found the options tag on the trunk compartment lid. I later learn about the 1LE and never considered mine to be one until I read about the b4c/1le car. So just the other night I take another look at the option tag and sure enough it's also came with the 1LE option.

So what are the chances of someone not knowing exactly what they have end up selling a car who to someone who is buying it strictly on face value.

Here's my question, if there were 589 b4c's built and under 200 1LE's, how many combos were made. I know the 1le's are more rare but how rare is the combo.
Btw, I appreciate authenticity so I don't have any plans of nodding the car besides changing fan turn on temps and maybe new exhaust. I wanted to drop in a 383 but will save that for my other project.

Sorry for the dragged out story but isn't that a cool find?

Re: Few of a kind find

Now I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong... But I want to say that all the 1992 B4C's came with the big front brakes.

All the 92 B4C cars came with the 1LE. Its the 91 B4C's that you could get with or without the 1LE.

Re: Few of a kind find

yeah thanks, the resto is underway and will be for a while. I've already put at least a grand in it in tuning and maintenance and still far from done. Previous owner abused the car as far as I can tell and had no appreciation for it. So far i've rebuilt the heads, changed the clutch, new cooling system minus fans, IAC valve all fluids changed and much more to do. Need a new/rebuilt tb, trans input shaft bearing, seal on rear diff etc, etc. Considering it has 200K on tach it still pulls pretty good. I try to work on it at least every weekend but free time is limited. Gonna look for a scooter to get to work and back with so I can park it and do it right. Glad it's a B4C or else would of been kinda of hard to convince the wife and myself to invest in it had it just been an rs. Probably would have sold it after the head job to be honest.

thanks for the info...

Re: Few of a kind find

Does your car have tuned port injection or throttle body injection? B4c's had unique equipment like a oil cooler, 145mph speedometer, tpi 305 5.0 mated to a t5 or the 350 tpi with a automatic trans. if your car has tbi than most likely you have just bought yourself a 92 Rs with a non original rear end. one last question are the rear calipers aluminum pbr's? or the old cast iron Delco Moraine's?

Re: Few of a kind find

yeah, i'm pretty sure it's a b4c. It has the M5 code and the 5 speed. It has the LB9 code, F vin and the 305 engine. It has the oil cooler, pbr calipers, tpi FI with cast runners, yeah the 145 speedo, someone pulled the Al driveshaft though. Also has the limited slip rear. I meant to take a pic of the build sheet(option sticker) yesterday but forgot to do it.

thanks

Re: Few of a kind find

As long as the VIN number on the SPID matches the VIN number on the car, you can trust the codes.

Re: Few of a kind find

thanks Lozan, although being a believer in JC, I consider it a blessing(in disguise). I've spent countless hours on this car already and that's only on the mechanical things. Aesthetically I need to paint it back to the original white, get a dash pad, original steering wheel, seat covers etc. It still has an idle issue and am actually going to post an update to try and get some more help.

thanks for the help all, i'll try and post some pics when I get a chance.
