Brand New Pace Car
575 mile 82 Pace Car. I know of a handful of people who would love to have this. Myself included! I love how the interior isnt all slathered with armor all. Nice original low sheen. Blue Engine block. Absolutely perfect.

I never really pay that much attention to 82-84 cars but this one is a jaw dropper!

Wow!!! I would love to see that car in person. I have never seen one that original. I hate to say it but that car belongs in a museum.

Re: Brand New Pace Car
I saw this on eBay the other day. Unbelievable condition. I snagged all the pictures and the video as a guide for my working on my '82 pace car.

Re: Brand New Pace Car
For those keeping score -- the car was no sale, reserve not met @ 15k and is now relisted with a high bid of $20.5k (also reserve not met).

Re: Brand New Pace Car
Thats an impressive bid so far considering the infamous 4 mile IROC-Z sold for 27k IIRC.

Re: Brand New Pace Car
Wow, I'll say. It seems that low mile cars (less than 30,000-ish) are bringing top dollars and there's a very steep drop off after that. The price difference between a 65,000 mile car and a 25,000 mile car is about 10k it seems. Hopefully for us owners, this starts to spread to other well-kept examples.

Re: Brand New Pace Car
I just found one of these in a SoCal junkyard last month. I visit junkyards very frequently, and I've never seen one of these in a yard. I reported on it in the SoCal forum.
Beautiful car. I'd bet the dent has been there since the car was built, probably came from the factory that way. American quality control wasn't "Job One" prior to the early '80s.
For example, I ordered an '83 HO Z28 in the early spring of 1983. When it finally arrived 3 months later, it had a quarter-size dent in the driver's door--no creases, no scratches, just a clean impression, a flaw in the sheet metal. I was furious! The dealer said, "hey, it's a mass-produced car, they aren't perfect. If you don't want it, I can have 5 people lined-up to buy it by the end of the day."
That was dealers' attitudes back then. Thirdgen Camaros and Firebirds were the hottest cars on the market, and dealers didn't care if you bought it or not; they knew they'd easily sell it to someone else. If it was like today's market, dealers would've probably marked-up the sticker prices and gotten away with it.
I suspect Corvette Mike probably feels similarly, and he's not likely to dicker with anyone about it. "Take it or leave it." I'd have to agree.

Re: Brand New Pace Car
Third time relisted. With a little over 2 days to go, it's at $12,600. I think the McDorman 82 pace car that Mecum sold last year, and which was still on MSO and still had the plastic on the seats went for around $25k, if I recall.

Just read you post on the other forum. What condition was the car in (beat, trashed, rusted? Was it a t-top car and do you know what opts it had?

Re: Brand New Pace Car
IIRC, there wasn't much left of the car, but its body panels weren't smashed, and, ironically, its pace car specific parts were still there, including all four wheels(faded but not damaged) and the LS seats(but the blue fabric was badly ripped), and it still had its composite hood(non-functional).

Re: Brand New Pace Car
Sorry, I didn't spend a lot of time looking it over, so I don't remember enough about it to give you specific details. That was a month ago, and turnover can be quick in the Valley junkyards, so the car is probably gone by now. And the yard isn't very close to me, so I won't be going there again for awhile. But it was in typical junkyard condition, looking like it had been laid to rest in a cow pasture for a few months before it landed in a junkyard.
