Ok guys so i had big problems getting the shifter to work properly and shift smoothly and i was told of sorts of solutions. What i did was send it to b&m and get a new sent back by them and now it works smooothly in all gears, so the problem was a defective shifter. If anyone is having this problem, its not normal for it to be hard to shift the gears and you might need to get a new shifter
mine is stiff pulling from park to rev. Butfine in all the other gears. I kinda like it this way tho. I had my buddy back it up about ten feet, it took him a couple tries. he played with the ign, the steering wheel, the finger bar, couldnt figure out why it wasnt dropping back. I thought it was funny. i look at it as maybe an added security feature.
hey guys, while on the subject, i dont mean to hijack the thread, but is the B&M hard to install? me being a total novice. i dont want to spend 200 bucks then mess something up, but i love the way it looks and since im gonna be redoing my interior i thought it would look pretty awesome in there. from what i understand, you must remove the entire console, then remove the stock shifter correct? then i heard something about shifter cables. please i try and understand this but if someone could tell me in NOOB terms, i would appreciate it. thanks
ONly real problem I ended up having was getting the indicator cable caught in the shifter. Ended up cutting it when I did. Wasn't paying attention well enough I assume.
if you take your time you can use a dremel and cut out a small area infront of and to the side of the old consule so you dont hack up your interior, the shift indicator can be a big pain for sure. as for appeal you can beat the way they look... (based off '86 RS with the B&M Z-Gate)
A friend of mine works in a machine shop so he made that piece for the gauges for me out of aluminum. I think I've seen something similar in a classic industries catalog but the hardest part was getting that piece to mount them on. Just get yourself a good wiring diagram and it's totally do-able. The auto meter instructions are usually really good so it makes it pretty simple to wire them up it's just very time consuming. Let me know if you have any other questions, hopefully that helps a little.
