IROC 85

I have a 1985 IROC, and I am installing a new ALPINE stereo and speakers (front & back). No amp or sub, just head unit and speakers. I have the wiring harness and adaptor kit. The speakers were ordered same specs as original. I'm looking for any advice, instructions, feedback and (tips) to make this a smooth installation. Dash removal and return tips? Wiring tips? All tips and or advice will welcomed, Thank you all

Read the tech articles on this site. Years ago I wrote some step-by-step installation instructions for various components. Also, do a search on the car audio forum. Your installation is very common and something that's been done many, many times by members here, so there should be a lot of good info for you to sift through.

Everything is an easy drop-in on an 85 Camaro, with the possible exception of the dash speakers. Some stick up high enough to interfere with the underside of the dash pad, some don't. Hopefully the Alpines don't.

6x9s are a drop-in swap. The head unit is an easy replacement as long as you bought the mounting adapter kit. It looks like hell because it sticks a mile out of the dash, but it installs easily.

that one is the easiest part.

Get a flashlight and look just under the lip of the dashboard. You will see 6 some bolts holding the underside down (cant remember what mm they are) and then look at where the defroster heat comes from on top, another 3-4 bolts there.

Remove all those bolts, put your steering wheel all the way down, lift up on the dash and just wiggle/pull it towards you. The foam can and will get torn and stuck on stuff, just be patient, wiggle it and she'll come out.

Keep the bolts on the passenger side floor for safe keeping, i lost mine 3 months ago and never rebolted my dash since

Sounds easy enough, I think thats what I'm worried about. I read a few posts about removing the dash and it sounds too easy if you know what I mean? Thank you all for your help. I'll keep you posted

Front speakers are in, lotta worries for nothing. Rear speakers didn't come with speakers connectors so I'll get them in tonight. Thanks for all the great advice, and I must admit, even though on numerous posts and threads people comment on not losing/ dropping any screws down the defrost because there gone forever. Well, even taking my time and acually holding the last screw...gone...forever! Thanks again-
