need a little help on my dash repair idea

So my dash, like so many others, is the victim of the sun. Huge grand canyon sized cracks run up it vertically. My initial idea was to cover it for awhile, but I hate the way those dash pads look. I reapolstered my headliner and door panels myself with a black vinyl and it looks amazing, so I got the bright idea to try that on my dash... not so great... but I was thinking what if I used some sort of filler in the cracks, and sprayed the whole thing with bed liner? A little googling led me to where a guy had done this with an old porsche or something, and it looked beautiful. Only problem is I have no idea what to use for filler... like not even the slightest idea so any suggestions? Or if anybodys tried this before care to share your results?

That is exactly what I was looking for thank you very much. Any idea of what that epoxy stuff was called?

If I were you I'd just check a junk yard, Craiglist, or eBay...

Check a junk yard first though. Mine was like yours...found an absolutely perfect one at a junkyard for 20$

Re: need a little help on my dash repair idea

I've already checked everywhere, I haven't been able to find a single junkyard within 150the miles that has a single third gen, except an f body specific one and they charge almost as much as brand new

Re: need a little help on my dash repair idea

FooFighters while I don't want to sound like a jerk ... I don't think I am going to find a solid dash on line cheap and the pick and pulls around me I am lucky to find a Camaro let alone a twenty year old mint dash pad ... respectfully

Mine is not that bad and I may still go the glue and spray route.

Re: need a little help on my dash repair idea

The Glue
Fiberglass Evercoat 885 Medium Urethane Adhesive 250ml MAXIM™ Medium Urethane Adhesive is a hybrid urethane that provides superior adhesion and flexibility for plastic repair needs. It can be used for multiple applications including bumper tabs, moldings, emblems, brackets and small plastic parts. The best choice when a “super fast” cure time is necessary. Sand and drill in 5 minutes.

OHIO you are in the rust belt the same as me junkyard cars don't survive the winter here. LOL

Re: need a little help on my dash repair idea

Doesn't hurt to check. I just skimmed eBay and saw a couple that were pretty expensive, but hey you could get lucky. I realize I struck gold when I got mine. And it was weird, I didn't bring any tools and there wasn't a single screw holding this dash in. Besides one little screw that I finger twisted out.

There's gotta be at least 3 or 4 Camaro/Firebird parts cars on your local Craigslist. Just gotta keep checking

Re: need a little help on my dash repair idea

/sigh
Yea I just checked the eBay there is a solid one going for 150 with ship some time left and lots of bidders. I get frustrated when I hear "just go to the pick and pull and get one" if your in the South or California, sure, not up here in the lets crush and cash out mentality area.

Re: need a little help on my dash repair idea

I was the one from Texas that did the fix. I shouldn't have tried it on a dash that was so far homer. Maybe if the was a minor crack and it didn't need much sanding it would have been better

Damb. I bet you where happy as hell to fix it. But i dont have the talent nor the place to do a fiberglass job. I live in an apartment complex. Ill take pictures to show you my dash. It think it is horrible. Some cracks on mine are more than 1/4".
