Fourth gen rear seats not fitting correctly?

So I installed seats in my '92, out of an 98-02 camaro. Front seats fit fine, but the rear seat back isn't fitting right. I got the bottom side bolts in, but on top of the drive shaft tunnel their are two studs that come off the sides that the old seat backs slid onto. The fourth gen seats don't have this since the seat back is one solid piece. Do people that do this swap just cut the studs off? If not they both are pushing into the sides of the seat back it looks like. Also where the seat back latches its like the studs aren't long enough for both sides to be latched. I can only get one side latched and then the other side comes up short. Any one else have issues like this?

I did a swap out of a 97 into my 92 and didn't have any of those problems.

Your car originally had split back rear seats. They were an option over the standard one piece back.

4th gens only had the solid style rear seat back. You can cut of the studs or pull the carpet back and drill out the spot welds holding the bracket on. The 4th gen back will fit correctly then. However, you will not be able to re-install the stock split backs without the studs being there.

Ok. What about the seat back latches not matching up though? I may just see if an interior shop can get or make leather covers that look like the 98-02 leather and just cover the rear '92 stock seats

Re: Fourth gen rear seats not fitting correctly?

I have an 89 Camaro, seats are out of a 02 TransAm. I just left them and the seats have just molded themselves to the studs and they have been fine going on 7 years now.

Re: Fourth gen rear seats not fitting correctly?

Cut the studs off. If you want original seats back in, just weld some rod across the area to replace it. Piece of cake.

Your catch pins might not be lining up because of the pin pushing the seat around. Still seems odd, but Ide remove the pins and double check that you have the seat back bolted in fully. Shouldnt have any issues.

If you still have issues, your seat back might be damaged. Those catch hooks can be bent easily. Like if someone stored the seat up on its side. Or dropped it. So make sure both hooks are straight and where they are supposed to be. I cant see the pegs on the car itself being damaged, but its always possible. So check that they are in the correct spot if nothing else works.

That makes sense. I will give that a shot tonight. Thanks

As far as the catch pins, I installed it backwards. Hook the upper seat on the catch pins so that the seat will center itself and then tighten the lower bolts.

Re: Fourth gen rear seats not fitting correctly?

In earlier models (IROC's for example) I don't think there is this problem?

Re: Fourth gen rear seats not fitting correctly?

Which problem?

If your car has a single seat back vs. split, you wont need to worry about the pins. If it is split, you'll have to remove the pins, or just push the seat over them like some said. I wasnt able to get mine to go over the pins, so they came off.

If you are referring to the catch problem he's having, thats not a common issue. I think he might have an issue with the seat parts being bent or just not lining up. We'll see what he figures out!

Re: Fourth gen rear seats not fitting correctly?

Yeah, so it's probably just an isolated case with his particular car then I guess. Planning on getting 4th gen seats that's why

Going to try this first. Really don't want to have to cut the pins. I will see what happens tonight though and let everyone know.
-Thanks

Pictures might help. The 4th Gen seat swap is something I'm considering too.

Got them to fit correctly. Had to bend the hooks on the seat back out a little. Then hung the hooks and bolted it down. Thanks for the advice!

Can anyone tell me why my pics are showing up like that? I'm uploading them from photobucket. Never seemed to have any trouble before.....

Just paste the [IMG] [/IMG] link in your post and it'll show up. Those look like they're linked through thirdgen.org for some reason.

Glad you got them in! They look great. So you were able to get the seat to work and fit well without removing the pins?? Man...I couldnt get my seat back to fit at all with those pins in there. I wish I didnt have to cut em but on two cars I had no choice.

Good advice on hanging them via the latches first then bolting.

Yeah I really hated to have to cut the pins, but luckily they just push on the inside of the seat back just a little, not enough to hurt anything or make the seat not fit right. I'm just going to get some black rubber caps to slide over them.
Thanks for re-posting those pictures for me btw!

Those are good looking seats. I think I'll start looking for a set for mine. Thanks for the post!

Thanks. Be sure and get them dyed if you have the black interior. These seats were the dark charcoal (dark grey that looked almost black) but after setting them in my car you could really tell a difference between the colors. I work at a Ford dealership and we have a guy that comes once a week that does interior work. For $125 he stripped and dyed/painted them black. They turned out great. I'm sure it wont last forever but I'd rather spend $125 and see how long they stay looking decent before I have to shell out the big bucks for actual black seat covers.
