So I am in the process of stock piling everything needed to 100% restore my aged irocz interior.
I have new carpet, new headliner, sail panels, visors and the door panels are on order

I have a couple good upholstery shops in my area and I was contemplating taking the dash pad and having it custom wrapped in leather with a seen along the edge that faces the driver in red stitch.

What do you think??? I feel like that would give it a modern feel and appearance.

i think that would look cool. i've been contemplating doing this for my build as well. i think the hardest part would be wrapping the leather into the recessed defrost area of the dash pad (at least for my '84 TA pad. not sure what this area looks like on a camaro - i assume it's similar). i'm sure an upholstery shop could figure that out though.

That would look good, just material selection will play a huge part. Use a good quality leather, often when people tend to wrap stuff they use cheaper materials and it gives it a shine, or baggy appearance.

Have thought about the same thing. I'm guessing it's not an inexpensive project, and my only concern becomes how the pad underneath ages. Just to throw a number out there...let's say it costs $800 to wrap the thing. It would certainly SUCK if the current pad split and the edges started to curl a year or two after having that done. Not sure how to mitigate that risk.

Should be okay, as long as you keep it out of the sun so it doesn't warp -- can't tell you how many low mile C6-C7 Corvettes we get at work with warped leather dashboards that we have to completely pull out and recover.

Sounds cool. I think a solution for the recessed vents/etc would be to use some kind of extension. I bet they sell something that would slide into the recesses and simultaneously hold the leather taute but keep a semi-factory appearance of the vents. Kind of like the little side vents on the center console?
