Most build their own with tubing and rubber/silicone connectors. Personal preference really. Cost is very similar any route you take

Re: ls3 swap cai

I used:

(1) 4" to 4" 90* rubber elbow
(1) 4" to 4" 45* rubber elbow
Section of 4" aluminum tubing
(5) 4" clamps
(1) K&N filter, I don't have the part number, it's a 4" inlet though, 7 or 9 inches long.

Bought all the parts from www.intakehoses.com

Re: ls3 swap cai

Cheap spectre 4" filter
2x 4" strait connectors with T-bolts
4" 90* mild steel exhaust tubing
4" 45* mild steel exhaust tubing cut in half mid bend and welded to the 90*

Tight fit, looks great, works great, good MAF readings, reasonable IATs, inexpensive compared to a prebuilt piece

I was looking at some of the cheap 4th gen / gto kits on ebay. you can usually find em for under $100. dont mind doing a little bit of cutting if needbe for that price.

Re: ls3 swap cai

If you can find one for that price, buy it. DIY things like mine are nearly that in materials

The two 4" bends are nearly $50, plus the $30 filter. Couplers $8 ea and clamps about $4 ea

Then I had to weld it together

Re: ls3 swap cai

I used an '06 GTO K&N kit for mine. I cut it just after the elbow that goes into the TB and turned it 180* to move the conical air filter down behind the driver side headlights. I made an airbox out of thin stainless steel to seal the cavity up to the hood. I can't get pics cause I'm overseas. I would be willing to bet that making your own out of separate components is significantly cheaper than buying a kit and modifying it though.

I'll post up the one I made for my car and the one on my dads car. They're a little different from each other as mine goes down through the sheet metal tray and in front of the wheel, his is completely in the engine bay. I'll post them later I'm out with wifey right now.

Is that thing at all awkwardly heavy pocket? I already have the same materials you used to make that at my disposal but I was afraid it would be a tad bit on the heavy side compared to one made out of the thin aluminum tubing for a relatively equal price.

Not the best pic, but you get the idea. 4" aluminum. Sounds like the worlds most powerful vacuum at idle, anyone else have the same sound?

Here some pics of my 4" aluminum tubing on my LS2 swap Iroc.
90 degree silicone bend and 45 degree alu tube. Huge K/N filter that gets some cold air from a hole in the drivers side battey tray.

About 5lbs with the filter. I chose steel over aluminum because I cant weld alum
