My first run to the track!

ok so I have stock 89 RS, 305.

only mods are the k&n intake and flowmaster muffler


my best time out of 3 runs were a 15.960

with a 1.1 reaction time.

i think i did good?

the odometer stopped at 146k

i believe its around 160k now

Yeah, I'd say that you did good. The best I could get out of my Firebird, when it had a 305TBI in it, was 16.20's.

Now, that 1.1 reaction time needs work. But for your first time at the track, that is expected. If you aren't already, try leaving on the last yellow light - don't wait for the green. Practice makes perfect.

But not bad times for your car.

When trying to practice your reaction times ALWAYS STAGE IN THE SAME SPOT or at least as close to as possible. I've seen too many guys out there trying to figure out why one time they have a .5teen light and teh next time is a 5.70 or so, just a general example anyways. Depending on car/driver staging techniques can help/hurt your R/T efforts. Alot of the slower street cars and even seasoned veterans deep stage, keep bumping through the lights until the pre-stage bulbs go out. When doing this, you just want it to flicker out and then repaet that every time so when you pull in your not an inch deeper the next time than the previous time. If your car reacts faster you want to light the pre-stage bulb and then bump in until the stage bulb just comes on. Practice, practice , and more practice. You'll never know how hard you can push the envelope until you rip it out My car with just the 2 line locks and 2 step is a slow leaver on the tree so I have to just trip the stage bulbs and then go 1 good pump of the brake pedal in further to get into .50-.5teen terrirotry. Then of course you'll get into the tire height up front for more roll out, more/less front tire pressure to fine tune, etc...proper staging is cruital in bracket racing along with the rest of the dance.

Having a 1.1 or a .501 reaction time, you will still run 15.96. Although the reaction time doesn't affect the ET, a poor reaction time will lose a race.

Your 1.1 shows me you waited until the green light was on. Theoretically if you reacted the same when the last yellow light came on, your reaction time would have been .600 with .500 being perfect (old systems). Many tracks are switching over to the .000 perfect tight timing system. Anything negative is RED.

Speed means nothing in a bracket race. Work on those reaction times and as long as the car runs consistant, you can win races.

well i will for sure keep that in mind!

however we were doing just fun drags and no real bracket competition. but once i get used to launching and find my cars sweet spot for best time, then i will get into competitions

I didnt get a 60 foot time, for some reason it didnt get a reading.. happened all 3 times, of coarse i raced the left lane all three times as well.. the person on right lane got his times.. so i wont know until i go back next wednsday
