Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
I'm in on this one too. I'm going to be adding 113 Aluminum heads and a XR258 cam to my 305 next month, and somehow I just don't feel that it's going to be enough. I see a lot of options for TPI out there, how about a carb'd application in a 3rd gen? Anybody make a kit for that?
What kind of experience did you have with the D1SC kit?

Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
I'm thinking of a similar set-up. My 305 is already stroked/punched out toa 335. I'd love a turbo but want to retain my TPI. A TPI just looks cool, like a metal octopus with its tentacles gripping the block. I already have the BBk twin 58 and matched runners, that addeda few extra ponies, but I'd love to add anothe 100 or so without the repeating expense of nitrous. Has anyone got a kit on the market that I might be able to adapt?

Hmmm... cheap and supercharging don't often go together very well. The cheapest way to up the output would be to put in a 5.7 haha

Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
Well like said above it's some money, no supercharger is going to be cheap cause low power don't really sell that much. I like superchargers over turbos, Superchargers just have a cleaner look to them.
Hawks has an 88-92 TPI Camaro/Firebird Procharger Kit that can be installed in about 10 hours with simple hand tools but the lowest power is still $4596.00. You could always build a cheap turbo or while I've never seen someone use it or build it, an Electric Super Chargers.

I have a Paxton balldrive blower on my 86 305 tpi, it works pretty well, you might be able to find a kit on ebay etc as the kit is out of production. I wouldn't pay a lot for a used one unless I saw it run as abuse can kill the balldrive.

Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
Simple man, what reasonable for one is not reasonable for another so here is the facts. The supercharger he is talking about is the big daddy of that Procharger kits and It will give you an 85%+ hp gain. that will run you from $4,936.20 to $5196.00. Now you could get a lower supercharger for $4,366.20 to $4596.00 and it will give you a 60% to 80% gain. I post above the link to this supercharger on hawks but you can get it at here but hawks make it a little easier cause they have the option to add the extra stuff that maybe needed to install it or upgrade it but as myself I like info and the above link has a much more in depth description to learn more about the supercharger and the company. Where you get it is up to you.
P.S. you can always go the cheap japan way
Electric Supercharger 5 PSI Vortex 15hp to 60hp - $200

Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
Keeping the TPI or going carb is as simple as the plumbing. Regardless of what way you do it you need to accomodate the engine's fuel demands. Overall that is what matters. Look up the Hanger 18 mods and go get an Extreme Velocity bonnet or the Procharger bonnet and be happy. JMO on this turbo if you can fabricate and super if you can't. I've got 2 GN turbos waiting for my 305, a Megasquirt II and some 39lb/hr injectors.

Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
Has anybody done the cheap japan way that RS Reaper was talking about?
I have a 305 TBI, and I am interested in a little bit more horsepower. I dont know much about turbo/superchargers, but 5000 is way out of my price range. would an "electric supercharger" work on my car?

We've seen electric supercharger posts and we've seen very old posts brought back to the top, but I think this is the first time both happened at the same time!

Supercharging ain't cheap unless you can find a used kit. Another option would be to fab up your own turbo kit which I think would perform much better then a supercharger in the end for the 305.

I just installed a used Paxton sn 2000. If you can find one you should be able to get one for less than 1200
Lots of used superchargers out there but the brackets are tough to find
Search craigslist
Wynjammer sells new sc kits for tbi

The only thing that is good for is venting my bathroom after I take a dump...

Yep new kits arent cheap, i'd rather put 4-6 grand towards a new n/a or nitrous motor of bigger cubes and make more hp or similar hp as the blown 305
Used kits are likely better bet for cost.
If you can fab and weld, turbo setup is best bang for your buck

Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
A paxton ball drive unit would be your best bet. My friends 305 86 camaro went 13.2 @ 106 at NED with just 6 lbs and a small compucam small stall and gears stock intake and of course exhaust. Not bad and car was fun as hell to drive. You wont find any ati units cheap. Ball drive can be had for cheap.

Re: 305 tpi considering supercharger or turbo kits?
Its crazy how the prices have shot up. In 95-96 I bought one of the first P600b kits for the thirdgens. 3 core , polished pipes , polished compressor, billet impeller, extended warrenty, think I paid $2900 shipped to my door. Either a ball drive or a P1sc is plenty for what you want, if you can find a vortec too as well. Dont mind the no intercooler thing at 6-8lbs which is totally safe on the street, add a 50/50 meth kit to it you would make an extra 100hp easy. Be streetable and reliable. I went 12.60 back in 96 on 9lbs bone stock motor at 111mph on an ATI kit. Ball drives are dirt cheap and bet you could find a kit around $1000. Vortecs maybe $1500. More than youll ever need. Easy 450+to the tire with meth on 6-8lbs. Big swap meet this weekend in CT. Might want to check it out. Take care.
