Those whom installed single turbo on their TPI
Was it a PITA to tune your setup? Im sure it takes multiple times to get it right, but I have no access to a laptop or burner and was thinking of possibly converting to the Typhoon ECM, SD setup and having it towed to a local speed shop and getting it dyno'd and tuned. Any thoughts?

Car: 1987 GTA
Engine: PT88 Turbo DART 406
Transmission: th400
Axle/Gears: 9" ford
I did not find it too terribly difficult>> But Im using a WB02 fast system... Really once I set the menus up to where it would start and run the tuning was pretty straightforward...
The problem will be finding someone that Knows how to work on the tune on prom that goes into a modified typhoon ecu... Best thing to do is find someone who can tune it while on a chassis dyno... Problem is that can get expensive>>>depending on who is doing the tuning it could end up costing more than a programable ECU does.. Another Idea that might get you closer would be to find someone on here with a similar setup using that ecu...see if they will let you copy their program>>>>It wont be perfect BUT it would give a closer starting point and keep the dyno time/cost down.. IF you start from scratch and are paying MONEY for DYNO time its better not to have to start from ground zero..

You need to tune idle and part throttle besides just a typical max. horsepower WOT tune. The only real way to do that is to drive on the street and log data.
After you get that right then it may be worth putting it on the dyno, but at that point you will have probably bought a WBO2 sensor and can tune max horsepower yourself.
With the money it will probably cost dyno tuning everything, it is probably cheaper just to buy the equipment. You can also use it on other vehicles and when you do more upgrades. Dyno tuning will cost you every time you change something.

...Base idle functions and LOW end is NOT what will do the damage on a turbo tune...Its what happens at WOT under boost.. I would venture to say By copying a stock base map I could have his car running good enough to idle and run on the street...Idle is not a complex function of the tune.. However I would not feel comfortable setting up the upper ends of the MAP without a dyno with a WB02 so that I could ensure the tune is straight on the upper end..
I dont know what kind of boost he is planning on running so I cant say too much. But again you will get 50000 different answers on here... Different levels of skill, and different though processes about whats right and wrong..

Thanks for the info guys. To be perfectly honest the whole programming scares me a bit. I guess it'll be a good lesson, but you could only learn so much from reading. It's sometimes great watching someone else in the process.

It sounds like Kenwood is offering to tune your idle and part throttle for you. It all depends if "good enough" is what you are after.
After he tunes that, then I would bring it for some dyno tuning. The cost will be much less just having WOT tuned on the dyno.
Your idle may be easy to tune or it may be hard to tune. It depends on what cam, intake, throttle body, and especially the injector size you have in it.
Yes, if you watch someone else tune then it will lessen the learning curve. It will give you an idea of what tables to mess with in the PROM. Most people are scared of tuning at first, but if you take it slow and mess with basic settings it will take the edge off. In time you can have it running "close to perfect" instead of "good enough".
I am also a novice tuner and I found that playing with the basic stuff made learning stuff a lot easier.

I actually think its easy to tune my car. I didnt have any trouble at all. One thing i would recommend having is a WB o2 sesor.
