Have you checked the rear hatch seal? Sounds like it might be the culprit especially since the rear was parked higher than the fron, the hatch wouldn't be draining properly.

Sadly, GM doesn't put a plug in the jamb to make it easy. You have to disconnect everything from inside the door, feed it out, and reverse the process for putting the new door on.

Dieseling is when the car continues to run (although very roughly) after you turn it off from being too hot. Is that what it's doing? And have you tried adjusting your idle speed screw lower?
