Have you checked the rear hatch seal? Sounds like it might be the culprit especially since the rear was parked higher than the fron, the hatch wouldn't be draining properly.

Sadly, GM doesn't put a plug in the jamb to make it easy. You have to disconnect everything from inside the door, feed it out, and reverse the process for putting the new door on.
