Good looking pan. The part of the pan where the exhaust will run looks the same as a stock pan. I didn't see a crank scraper in the photo?

That sounds like a lean condition if that helps. Replacing the restrictive exhaust would cause that.

Thanks for sharing photo. You tell people why not to run a 4:10 on the drag strip in a 7.5 and they don't get it. They look at you as if you have three heads.

Those heads may be the original heads. By 1989 the only iron 350 heads GM had in the assembly plant would have been TBI truck units.

Take everything to the machine shop and let them look at it. There is a reason the engine was seized up. The machine shop will advise you on what to do next.

Seen this before. car ran off the road way during a rain storm. Catalytic converter bottomed out busting up the inside blocking exhaust flow.

Sounds like good advice to me. Also If you need some machine work we are a little closer. We are not a machine shop, we build engines but we like to do machine work for knowledgeable people.

Drive that dude as it is. Its to cool and they are not many left. It will probably bust a piston if you hotrod it much.

:iagree: I took my numbers matching 305 out and I store it under one of my work benches in my garage. If I ever sell the car the new owner will get the engine with it.

Hate to hear of your loss. Seen it happen several times never good. Tell everyone you know use a lock nut. Seems to me that Air Cleaners and new Carbs should come with a lock nut.

I have seen several 1989 and 1990 chevrolet 350 blow the head gaskets. I always have the heads resurfaced and rebuilt. The last one I did has lasted over 18 years so far.

I have seen them before. Seem to be ok. Been told they were cast by Brodix. Go to speedtalk.com racer forum. engine tech. and ask. There are some very smart people hanging around there.

What you are doing by revving the engine up is running all the advance out. Total Timing should be around 35 degrees. Thats why you need a advance timing light or timing tape. By using the timing...

Yes you can use them. Once the rods have been worked they are good until they get our of round again. May take years of running to do that.
